I had a spare Sunday in a 2 week work trip to Zurich. I thought I would take a boat trip on the lake, and settled on the 4.5 hour version, thinking that it would be a relaxing way to spend the afternoon and see some parts of Switzerland that I hadn't seen before.
And it was. But this is not a review for the boat trip. (worth it though)
What I didn't realise when I booked, is that it's possible to jump off the boat at one of the numerous stops around the lake, and get on a later boat (assuming you're not on the last boat of the day of course.)
So when the boat landed (?) at Rapperswil at the far end of Lake Zurich, and there were lots of people getting off, and it looked like an historic old town kind of place, I asked one of the crew. They said that I could catch one of the later boats (in 2 or 4 hours).
So.... get to the point I hear you say.... I strolled around town avoiding the tired participants of an Ironman that was going on that day, very hungry looking for food.
I stumbled upon Siculus, as I was kind of in the mood for pizza. It's an Italian restaurant on one of the back streets in the old town, and had some comfortable seating outside with cushions and blankets if required.
I went with a gorgonzola pizza and Italian beer.
They were both delicious and hit the spot perfectly. Even better, Manuel (sp?) who looked after my order and food was super friendly and helpful.
If you're like me and love football, then Manuel has superb knowledge and will engage with some serious insight. He thinks England will do well at this summer's Euros, and Italy not so well.
Only you as the reader will now know if Manuel should become a pundit or stay working at Siculus...
Do yourself a favour and have a day out on the boat, with a pizza for lunch/dinner at Siculus in Rapperswil. I had not heard of either place at the beginning of the day. You will not be...
