Hotel Alpenrose — Restaurant in Schwende-Rüte

The hotel is located about 250 metres from Wasserauen railway station and is close to many local walking routes and the Ebenalp cable car station. Excellent local walks to Seealpsee, Meglisalp, Sämtisersee and Fählensee are highly recommended. The hotel is a traditional rustic ornately painted Swiss building with very friendly helpful staff who speak excellent English and do all they can to ensure you have a good stay. My room at the Alpenrose was quite spacious, very clean with a comfortable bed, free Wi-Fi and shower and toilet. The room was cleaned daily during my stay. Breakfast was continental style with cereals, fruit juice, cold meats, locally sourced yummy cheese, breads, croissants, jams, yogurts and fresh fruit. Hot drinks were served at your table by their pleasant staff. Tasty, plentiful evening meals were served from 5 - 8 pm (except Wednesdays when they are closed) and were very reasonably priced. If your stay is for three or more nights you are entitled to the Appenzell Guest Card which they rightly claim is the best guest card in Switzerland as it allows free travel on local buses and trains, three return cable car journeys on the Ebenalp, Hoher Kasten and Kronberg cable cars plus entry to several local attractions. Their claim for the card is well justified and a real money saver for those on a limited budget. One of the best hotel locations we had been to. More than anything, you can just go for this hotel for its location. it is just right in the foot steps of Alps in Wasserauen.In fact, this is the only hotel in Wasserauen. We booked double bed room facing railway station side. I think you would get better views if you book the room with back side of the hotel. The rooms were tidy and spacious. There is en suite bathroom in the room. The beds were not that great but still Okay. Breakfast is like usual in any other place with sweets and svaoury options. We had Lunch and Dinner at this place and it wont definitely disappoint you. They got good selection of drinks as well. I felt this place bit pricey with the standard rates. Considering this is the only place in Wassereun, the price is justifiable. You can trek to almost all famous places around from this place. We took long trek route to Seealpsee(if you are not a trekking person, you can take short trek), then to Äscher( This is quite a trek) and then to Ebenalp(just 15 mins trek). Then we took cable car down to the hotel. the cable car station and railway station is 200 meters away.
