Here’s a detailed review of the hiking trails available at the "Top of Interlaken":

Harder Kulm Panorama Trail: Difficulty: Easy Duration: 30-45 minutes round trip This short, family-friendly trail starts at the Harder Kulm funicular station and takes you to several panoramic viewpoints. It’s a leisurely walk with minimal elevation gain, making it accessible to all ages and fitness levels. The trail offers stunning vistas of Interlaken, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, and the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains.

Hardergrat Trail: Difficulty: Hard Duration: 6-8 hours one way For experienced hikers seeking a challenge, the Hardergrat Trail is a must. This trail follows the ridge line from Harder Kulm to Augstmatthorn, offering unparalleled views of the Bernese Alps and the lakes below. The trail is narrow and exposed in places, requiring sure-footedness and a head for heights. The demanding trek rewards hikers with some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. Due to its difficulty, it's best undertaken by those with experience in alpine hiking.

Interlaken to Harder Kulm: Difficulty: Moderate to Hard Duration: 2-3 hours one way Starting from Interlaken, this trail ascends steeply through forests and meadows to Harder Kulm. The hike involves a significant elevation gain of about 800 meters (2,625 feet), making it a good workout. The well-marked trail offers beautiful views as you climb, and reaching the summit feels especially rewarding after the hike. It’s a great option for those looking to combine exercise with sightseeing.

Harder Kulm to Hohbühl Pavilion: Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 1-1.5 hours round trip This moderate trail takes you from Harder Kulm to the Hohbühl Pavilion, a lovely viewpoint with benches and picnic tables. The path winds through alpine meadows and offers excellent views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. It’s a peaceful hike that’s perfect for those who want to enjoy the natural beauty without tackling a strenuous route.

Harder Kulm to Brienzer Rothorn: Difficulty: Very Hard Duration: Full day This trail is for seasoned hikers looking for an epic adventure. The route from Harder Kulm to Brienzer Rothorn is long and challenging, with significant elevation changes and technical sections. It offers breathtaking views throughout but requires excellent fitness and preparation. Due to its length and difficulty, it’s advisable to start early and ensure you’re well-equipped.

The trails around Harder Kulm are well-marked with clear signage, making navigation straightforward. There are several rest areas and benches along the trails, providing spots to relax and take...

★☆☆☆☆ Do NOT pay for the set menu — poor service, bad attitude, underwhelming and disappointing food

We bought the Harder Kulm ticket with the set lunch (CHF 49, regular ticket alone is CHF 44).So the meal was only CHF5- which seemed liked a good deal at first. There is only one restaurant on the mountain, so we should expected a decent experienced, but finally what we got was disappointing on every level- food, service, and management.

On 30/7 around 1300, When we arrived we asked a male waiter where to sit. He told us it was free seating. We were a group of five, and the restaurant was very crowded, so we sat across two nearby 4-person tables. Moments later, a female blonde waitress came over with a rude tone, saying: “You all can’t sit like this.” We politely asked how we should sit, and she kept repeating something like, “You should all sit on one side.” Then she finally said “Fine”, and walked away without helping. She continued moving menus around near us without saying a word — no effort to resolve anything.

Eventually, a much more polite waiter came over, smiled, and rearranged one table with an extra chair so all five of us could sit together. We appreciated his help. But the overall staff attitude and lack of coordination were unacceptable.

Then came the food.

The meal started with a soap that was really salty

there were only two menu options:

-A non-chewable beef dish with tasteless brown sauce and plain rice -A deep-fried fish fillet on top of some salad — overly greasy and very underwhelming

Both options felt cheap and mass-produced, not something you’d expect for although it is 5 CHF only, but for the lunch on top of a famous Swiss mountain. Total letdown.

After the meal, we tried to ask for the bill — we politely asked five times, through different staff, and waited over 20 minutes. Finally, I walked up to one of them, and she casually said, “Sorry, some of us are on a break.” That’s not an excuse. You can’t just ignore customers when they’re trying to pay.

In Summary: Low-quality food with only two uninspired options. Unfriendly, cold attitude from the staff Chaotic seating system and slow service No sense of hospitality — and this is supposed to be a highlight experience for tourists The view is worth the trip — but do yourself a favor and skip the set meal. It's a...
