A nice little white-tablecloth oasis in the old part of Zurich. Every dish was spectacular. Not just every dish, but every accompaniment as well.
They do not have an English menu so be prepared to read German or get lucky and hope your waiter can read the menu to you. They are warm and friendly and helpful, but they don't cater primarily to tourists.
We had fried fish, a tomato sauced gnocchi, and a pulled chicken dish. Every one of the dishes was so good that I wanted to go back. The fried fish came in small shallot-sized pieces and were hot, crispy, and perfectly cooked. The gnocchi was light and melted in your mouth. And the chicken was had been cooked with the bones for flavor and had the kind of flavor that we only wish chickens in the USA had. But beyond the dishes being good - they came with a side leaf lettuce salad with just a touch of oil-based dressing and I haven't had a more delicious salad in the my life. The green were bursting with flavor and the dressing truly complemented them as opposed to covering up.
And, oh yes, the beer was good. This is another place I would go back to. The menu changes regularly so be prepared...
Read moreReserved for the surprise menu, 3 people with the remark "1 Person gluten intolerant". Please, read remarks in the reservations and get back to the guest if you are unable to deliver. Luckily I called before we arrived to doublecheck. So at least the waitress was prepared to tell what main dishes were availabe gluten free. Surprise menu was not available gluten-free and there was no possibility to get 4 menu-sized gluten-free courses. So the gluten intolerant person had to sit-out 2 courses.
Surprise menu: Soup was really great. Wienerschnitzel was good. Pâté with chicken ok. Neither was innovative or creative. We wondered if maybe the order was reversed... or maybe that was the innovation? Dessert was definitely the confirmation that we would not repeat the visit. There was no wine pairing available for the surprise menu… that was a surprise. They improvised with a solution that was ok. Service personnel was friendly although appeared to be hectic and didn’t have time to explain properly what we were eating. Value for money not balanced....
Read moreThe food was great and also the service. The stuff is also very friendly; nothing to complain on that. But, as I am a tea lover, I was very disappointed to get my tea ( high quality ) in a half full "coffee mug". I don't understand why a restaurant which serves such delicious food can't afford to buy a tea pot and serve the tea properly to guests who want to have their food with a tea? ...then we ordered an ice cream and got it in a very fancy cup, but the scoop was so tiny and shy that we thought it was a joke. Even the kid on the table was sad after having it. We said it to a lady from the stuff, and I think she didn't take it serious. So overall, very nice place to visit but still some...
