Bar Door to Dream — Restaurant in Chiayi

That I stumbled upon Bar Door to Dream was a complete fluke. I was in Chiayi by myself to watch a solar eclipse and found myself walking the city streets at night. I looked up bars on Google to find that the Bar Door to Dream had a 5-star review.

Let me start off by saying that this bar absolutely deserves its 5-star score. It's a small place that specializes in gin, but gin is not the only thing they do right. Xiao Hao (小豪) behind the bar is knowledgeable in two fields -- tea and cocktails. That's a very dangerous combination in my opinion.

I started off with an old fashioned, which, to me, is a benchmark cocktail for a bar. After that, I delved into specialty drinks. I had one called "Four Seasons Cocktail -- Spring Edition." I have to say, it was one of the best cocktails I've had in my life. The drink itself was made with a combination of three tea liquors. Each one came together perfectly to give off the fragrance of peach. My mind was blown. It was so good, I ordered the thing twice.

If anything, I will return to Chiayi just to go to this...

Fantastic bar experience. We are a couple from the UK and went to this bar on a Sunday night. It was just us in the bar as we got there early, but the barman was so welcoming and spoke english well! You don't order from a menu, rather you give your taste preferences and the barman picks against those specifications. We ordered 2 cocktails each and he nailed the picks all 4 times! The cocktails were around 400TD each but the experience and knowledge made that feel like a steal! The best bar in ChiaYi in my opinion! From the drink, the vibe, the music to the bartenders. There is no menu, you tell the bartenders the flavors you like and they will make it for you. The drinks are so delicious and have each and their own stories, created by the owner. I especially love the vibe of this place, it’s dark enough but you feel close to the bartenders, with laid back jazz music playing in the background. Many people also come here solo....
