This place is a real blessing for someone in Chiayi that appreciates eating different foods from different cultures. I was actually quite surprised when I found out that there was such an authentic Indian restaurant in the city. As such, I have ordered from it almost every week, even though I only stay in town on the weekends. The quality and taste is excellent. Compared to other Indian restaurants, I would say that the spice level is accurate. I've eaten that other Indian restaurants and ask for medium spice and found that it was really bland in fact. This is not the case with King's Flavor, as they offer just the right amount of spice according to your request. I have not yet ordered the spiciest option (大辣)but I might be brave enough to try one day. I know that some of my Indian friends may consider that even the spiciest option here is not the "Indian level" of spice, but to me it is just the right amount.
Overall, I can highly recommend any of the curries. I've tried a few of them and have been extremely satisfied every time. I also almost always order samosas, and find them and their accompanying sauce to be extremely delicious. There are many other options including salads, so there's definitely something for everyone. Even my vegetarian friends are able to order from this restaurant.
I can make an important recommendation for anyone ordering the curries that are saucy. You should definitely order at least three servings of naan in order to ensure that you have enough to accompany the meat in the dish as well as to soak up all of the extra delicious sauce. The first time I ordered I only ordered two portions, which was not enough. I ordered for the next time, but that seemed to be a bit too many. Three seems to be the...
Read moreoverall - solid 3. average Indian (also recognizing I'm judging from American palette and experience)
largely was throughly fine/OK to fill a craving while traveling, but didn't particularly stand out
pros: flavor of curries overall was solid portion of curry someone had called out, but I actually think it was a good portion good service!
grows: Mango Lassi just kinda meh - it needed more yogurt imo this is the first time in my life I'd been charged for rice at an Indian restaurant (usually they even give me lots of extra rice at no added cost). maybe adding 30 to all dishes (the price of rice on the menu) and just including rice by default would also be nice with pluses for different kinds of rice - at least psychologically it would've felt better to me the textile of the naan was just a bit off - more tortilla/flatbread than naan in my experience -spice levels weren't a default for all dishes. this could've been a language barrier, but having our dishes spicy (Tikka Masala and seafood curry) would've been a gamechanger pacing of food coming out was a bit off - got naan after curries and rice - usually nice to have early to eat some while waiting and with curry right away. in fact, our second naan (garlic) actually came after we finished eating for the most part...
other thoughts: adding a biryani to the menu would...
Read moreAs usual, I ordered “pani puri” as an appetizer. It tasted different from the one I had tried before. The sauce was light, mild, and flavorful—perfect!
For the main course, I chose “beef vindaloo,” an authentic Indian beef curry. It had bold curry flavors, a deep, vibrant red color, and chunks of beef slow-cooked to tender, fall-apart perfection. It was spicy, and I think for serious curry lovers, it’s hard to top this dish. The other main course was chicken tikka. The grilled chicken was so flavorful, tender, and moist. The overall flavor was outstanding.
I also ordered two naan—one is butter and the other one is garlic-flavored. These were better than those from the previous shop I visited. You can eat naan directly, dip it into curry sauce, or use it to wrap the grilled chicken for an extra burst of flavor.
It was a...
