Update: Their handling of the pandemic has been very poor and as they don't have a website, it's been impossible to know what's going on. Went to buy some bread and was turned away, as they only accept pre-orders. How? Through a link to a Google doc on their instagram page... You're then supposed to contact them via line or email to pay up front via a bank transfer, really? Why should I trust a small time bakery that much? It's not how you do business and it's not how you keep your customers. As nice as their baked goods are, this kind of attitude towards customers isn't good enough imho.
Update: Been back a few times after the review below and it's still all very good. I'd say the hazelnut croissants would be a much better breakfast pastry than the ones from My Croissant, as theirs are much sweeter. Regardless, this is a top notch bakery.
Bought half the store today (or at least that's what it felt like) and it was all very good. The hazelnut croissants are very nice, maybe not quite up to My Croissant's level as far as croissants goes, but the filling and topping made them quite special. The sourdough bread is excellent and the focaccia, albeit not quite being the real deal, is soft and nice. This has to be one of the top bakeries in Taipei right now. Still far from cheap, but based on the quality of their goods,...
Read moreNew favorite little bakery!! I heard the owner was a baker at Purebread, and the quality shows - the croissant here is the best that I've had in Taiwan! The fruit danishes are also absolutely incredible in every flavor from kiwi to Plum to Peach, and their sourdough boules are very famous and flavorful! I noticed cinnamon rolls are popular too and the chocolate croissant is solid although I personally prefer the classic croissant more~ I think the only thing I haven't tried yet are the pretzels, which I would love to but have been told they don't recently make them anymore, and the biscuits! I've been here three times the past two days and I'm definitely coming back more ;)
P.s. the lady who works the counter is super friendly and professional and will let you know when baked goods are available...
Read moreRise Bakery is a rare location in Taipei that offers legitimate Western style breads and pastries. The sourdough is leavened and made in the artisanal style beginning with a rye starter, which imparts a rich flavor. They also like to experiment with the sourdough, where in my case I got to try a fig-walnut mix-in which was fantastic.
They also offer a unique take on scones, where scones are often denser and dryer the ones they have at Rise are softer and fluffier, giving them a texture quality that doesn't require a coffee or tea accompaniment to make up for any dryness.
Overall a fantastic, unique place for...
