One of the few Spanish restaurants in Hsinchu. The owner worked in Spain for 3 years before returning to Taiwan and opening his own bistro-restaurant.
Being Spaniard myself had to try out this place.
The design is great, you can notice right away they spend their time trying to come up with a nice and stylish design. Now I am not sure if they wanted to make it very Spaniard or just add some touches of it but seeing Italian deco and books certainly doesn't help it differentiate itself as the "only Spanish restaurant" but the typical Western style.
They offer some well known tapas like Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimps), Spanish omelette, gazpacho, etc and of course different paellas. They also have some Italian dishes stuffed in like Caesar salad and pasta (carbonara).
We ordered the omelette and gambas al ajillo. The omelette wasn't very tasty thought the technique used was the right one but we were impressed with shrimps. Good taste resembling the ones you can try in Spain.
We also ordered two different paellas, the traditional Valencian one and the black rice with calamari ink. We felt they were a little bit disappointing. Flavor wasn't in point and the price for it wasn't on par either 450-500 TWD for each one)
The restaurant said they did use Spanish ingredients but I guess the technique or the execution wasn't just enough.
Overall I would say that the place is good for some tapas (reasonable price) but stay away from the paellas, overpriced...
Read moreOne of the only few Spanish restaurants in the city. Seating is spacious, and you can choose to eat in a "dining room" style zone, or at a long table that gives you a "bar-like" impression. The interior is extremely well decorated, but you'll have a bit of a trouble finding the washroom as it got blended into the decoration. The food is a bit expensive, but I'd say it's worth it. You can tell how they really tried to preserve the original Spanish recipe and did not try to 'localize' the food. One con to keep note of: the restaurant is usually full, you probably wouldn't get a seat unless you make...
Read moreFine dinning experience with high value for money dish. Strongly recommend for picky taste bud people. The table service provided in this restaurant is phenomenal & high standard. If you unsatisfy with particular dish they will remake it to meet your expectation. Enjoyed my diner the day before and back again for today lunch. Quality and freshness with the ingredients already earned 5 stars. Service within the restaurant will top it by another 5 stars (Big Thanks to Linda 梓君), will make you feel being well-look-after & enjoyed your meal. Hard to find such good authentic restaurant to enjoy a good meal. Recommend their [Spanish grilled fish] - fresh, layered with rich spices, cooked to perfection in heat. Another dish enjoyed very much last night [Spicy Garlic clams with white wine spaghetti] - known as [Vongole] dish, clams are very fresh without any sand issue, garlic fried well with good olive oil, spaghetti cooked in well standard (no over cooked like majority of other restaurants in Taiwan). Well done to the chef in that restaurant! Improvement needed dish: [Spanish Paella rice] - ratio of white wine & spices (sofrito) need to adjust, hoping to have diced tomatoes to add in. Then finish with some cheese on top layer to make it bit of creamy taste (blend in with the spices). P.S. Amex is accepted here! Restaurant Recommended by Amex...
