南北樓中餐廳 (林森店) — Restaurant in Kaohsiung

Traditional Chinese restaurant and as its name states, serves both Northern and Southern Chinese favorites. Decor is also Chinese and all the servers are in traditional Chinese garb. Expect the restaurant to be noisy when full. Weekdays are very quiet here.

The food is good as always but remember the chicken soup needs advance order. Our go to in this restaurant is the stewed pork belly cooked in clay pot that is so tender it falls apart when pinched with chopsticks and practically melts in your mouth. Goes very well with steamed rice, steamed buns or their fried rolls. The cod steamed with garlic and crispy beans as well as the baby vegetables and the bitter gourd with salted egg not to be missed.

All orders come in only one size for ala carte so for 3 people, 3 dishes and a soup would be more than adequate in volume.

If coming on weekends and holidays, be sure to make a reservation because those are really busy days and take note of the 2pm closing time if coming for lunch. Kitchen...

Surprisingly nice Chinese restaurant. They have a very good old fashion and traditional Taiwanese decoration. Food is reasonable price and acceptable portion. The taste of the food is surprisingly nice. We love the pork belly square. We LOVE it. It is nicely cook and seasoning. Juicy and soft pork made us actually order a second dish that night. Kinda loud when we were there since there was a wedding going... but fun to watch people getting marry and wearing the old traditional dresses. So......

Come and take a time machine back to old China where waiter and waitress dressed up in traditional Chinese dress uniform and the interior design of this place is like wealthy personal palace.
