First of all, they don't accept reservations. You need to wait outside in the heat if you want a table. Very strange logic. They obviously have no consideration for their customers.
When I got seated I was sat at the door. People had to be careful not to bump me coming in because my seat was literally blocking some of the entrance. It was not a comfortable position as I kept getting hit by the heat every time the door opened. The cafe is pet friendly so if you're allergic to pets this isn't the place for you. There were 2 dogs there during my visit.
Now for the food. The pesto sauce was made with a flour based sauce (flour and milk). You could tell because it was very sticky and gluggy. It made the pesto flavor almost disappear. The eggs Benedict isn't really eggs Benedict because 1. It was served on normal bread, not an English muffin and the Hollandaise sauce was just a yellow flavorless sauce pretending to be Hollandaise sauce. So it was really just poached egg on bread.
Previous reviewers said you get plenty of food on the plate compared to other brunch places. Well, I didn't feel you got any more than other places AND other places (like 2nd Floor) also include juice and a bottomless cup of coffee. You don't get any drink included here. So for the price, you're better off going to 2nd Floor or elsewhere.
Previous reviewers also said there was no 10% service charge. There is now! So that made the price even worse. To top it off, they don't provide a receipt and the counter staff was far from friendly. They didn't care if you enjoyed your meal or not, just give me your money and go seems to be their attitude.
In summary, I won't be returning to "Just a Bear". The prices are too high for what you get compared to other better cafes, they charge 10% service charge for almost no service or consideration to their customers, and the the food is disappointingly poor and...
Read moreThe food was awful. We ordered one of the pasta dishes with squid and grilled steak. It was extremely bland and the sauce was basically nonexistent. The whole thing was dry: the pasta didn't soak up any sauces, and the steak and squid were like rubber and tasted like something I wouldn't want on my plate. I had to add a ton of mustard and pepper to eat it.
The omelette with shrimp was slightly better but still bad enough. The shrimps inside the omelette tasted like rubber, and the whole thing was under seasoned. The omelette was not fluffy at all. There was a side of salad and some bread, but both didn't taste good.
I wouldn't recommend this...
Read moreThe food is mediocre and service is awful. The wait staff are not friendly or helpful. Every time I come here I do not feel welcomed. I tried to call in a reservation for that same morning and they said I had to walk in and make a reservation in person. This was very inconvenient. They need to take reservations like a...
