Brunch By the Park — Restaurant in New Taipei

This brunch place features typical "Asianized" Western food (think dried soy beans sprinkled over a mixed fruit and vegetable salad). If you are looking for authentic or fancy or healthy fare, you probably would be disappointed (3 stars); if you like "safe" familiar comfort food, this is at least 4 stars. The menu is cleverly combining different flavours of a couple of base dishes (e.g., eggs Benedict, French toast, a kind of lasagna with variations of ham, salmon and the like) with a standard set of complements such as a vegetable fruit salad, a small cup of starchy, sweetish chicken vegetable soup, and a smorgasbord of deep fried stuff - chicken wings, rustic fries, sweet potato balls, onion rings, etc. The food menu has short English labels that give you the main gist of each dish but the drinks menu is only in Chinese, and Google translate failed miserably especially with the smoothies (I had high hopes for the "herbal yogurt smoothie" but it turned out to be a slushy concoction with strawberry flavour, vanilla ice cream, and enough sugar to kill a dozen diabetics on the spot (slight exaggeration 😜). Its a really nice and cozy place to have breakfast, brunch or lunch. The boss is really friendly but at times can be crowded so its better to consider a reservation. The day I went we were only two, so the boss allowed us to occupy a table, but a group of 4 without reservation was asked to wait or leave. The food is really good, the ingredients taste fresh. There is a good variaty of options for drinks with or without caffeine, and there is also water available for free. It is nicely decorated and all the time has relaxing music playing. Stoped at this place on a rainy day for afternoon coffee. Had the Americano, Chamomile green tea, and blueberry waffle which comes with assorted fruits, ice cream, etc. The coffee and tea were acceptable, but the waffle was awful.
