A Decade of Culinary Bliss at Saffron - Taipei's Crown Jewel of Indian Cuisine
In the bustling gastronomic landscape of Taipei, there stands an establishment that has not only stood the test of time but has become a beacon of culinary excellence, a place where flavors transcend borders and hearts are won - Saffron.
For nearly a decade, my wife and I have been patrons of this culinary haven, a place that has managed to encapsulate the rich and vibrant flavors of Indian cuisine like no other. Each visit is not just a meal, but an event, a celebration of authenticity and passion encapsulated in every dish that graces your table.
To say that Saffron offers the best Indian cuisine in Taipei would be an understatement. It’s an unparalleled culinary journey that surpasses boundaries, offering the finest Indian dining experience I have ever encountered globally. It is here that the art of Indian cuisine reaches its pinnacle, blending traditional flavors with an unwavering commitment to quality.
And then there’s the butter chicken, a symphony of flavors so sublime that words falter to describe its rich and creamy texture, and the melody of spices that dance harmoniously on your palate, creating a gastronomic experience that lingers in your memory, urging you to return for that delightful encounter, time and again.
A significant part of Saffron's magic lies in its remarkable team, the true heartbeat of this establishment. Chris stands as a testament to their impeccable service, a maestro orchestrating a dining experience where every guest is valued, every need anticipated and met with a warm smile. You can witness the camaraderie and joy in the interactions of a team that has grown and flourished together, evident signs of a management that cherishes and nurtures its people.
The owner, a custodian of this incredible legacy, clearly pours her heart and soul into Saffron, fostering an environment that is as welcoming as it is professional, where the ultimate goal is to enamor your senses and make each dining experience a cherished memory.
As someone who has witnessed the growth and consistency of Saffron over the years, it brings me immense joy to declare it as not just my favorite restaurant in Taipei but a true emblem of culinary brilliance and hospitality.

Read moreI've been consistently visiting Saffron with my friends ever since I discovered this restaurant about two years ago. Although not the best Indian restaurant comparing with what London has to offer, but what I found is a place I can sit with mates, enjoying charming atmosphere, above average Indian cooking, and an excellent wait staff. Contrary to Miss Cate Chen has written on her review, Saffron's cooking is full of big flavors. From an authentic looking Tendor near the front entrance, tendori chicken always tender, flavorful, and juicy. Their nans are excellent unlike Miss Chen has described if they are not too flavorful. Masala dishes are well above average and so as all the veggie dishes like Aloo Gobie and Saag Paneer. I'm rather baffled by Miss Chen's review. It has all the psycho reactionary American Yelp style review writing minus the English writing skill. The review centers around her hatred of the villain waitress and repeating the food is below average and bland without explaining in a constructive way. Its difficult to find a decent Indian restaurants in Taipei since this beautiful and historical cuisine has long being shadowed by the local cooking and Japanese cuisine. There aren't that many to choose from and most of the Taiwanese don't know the complex layers of spices and amazing technique of true Indian cuisine. Instead, most people are just looking for something exotic and cheap to impress their date. Saffron is the best indian food option here in Taipei as the cooking hasn't being tarnished by trying to be " Taiwanized" . It's not cheap in Taiwan's standard. And I recommend to book a table in advance if you were interested to give...
Read moreAfter many years of hearing about Saffron presumably being the best Indian restaurant in Taipei we finally ended up going with a couple of friends. Long story short, the food is bland, bland and bland, something you really wouldn't expect from an Indian restaurant.
The tandoori chicken we ordered for starters was well cooked, but had no real flavour. The curries were all bland and mine was also extremely creamy for some reason and there really was no reason to finish the sauces for any of us. The meat was generally cooked well, but the chicken was dry and overcooked.
The only positives were the mango lassi and the naan breads, as the rest of the food was really tasteless. The service wasn't bad in general, although the restaurant is way to cramped with people bumping into us every so often, as we sat right by the door which is a really awkward place to be seated in any restaurant.
To add insult to injury the meal was also insanely expensive for what we ordered and ended up being almost twice what we expected to pay and we're not even sure what made the meal so expensive, as looking back at what we ordered, there's no way the food was worth what we paid for it.
If you like Indian food and want it in Taipei, go to Balle Balle, it's much tastier and cheaper. I really don't understand the positive reviews for this place, but hey, if you like plain, bland Indian food, then this place is for you... This is the first time I've eaten Indian food and burped afterwards without any kind of curry/spice flavour from the meal...
