I come to the cafe every day. So, at this stage, I feel pretty confident to give an honest review.
Overall, I think it's an all-around great spot whether you are looking for a place to have brunch, lunch, or dinner. I'd say, the way the space is designed and the atmosphere it creates, I'm not inclined to come here for dinner on the whole. However, they absolutely get 5 stars for great daytime cafe vibes.
The staff are lovely and they try their best. I give them 5 stars because everyone is very determined and no major mistakes are made. However, some seem not aware of some basic service industry standards around how to communicate and interact. You can absolutely see that some have more experience than others.
The food is excellent. I've had a ton of menu items, and overall, it's a well-rounded menu. I wonder if it might be slightly too large and that they could potentially refine it some more to become excellent in more areas if they honed it down slightly.
One of the reasons I come to this spot every day is because I'm looking for healthy options, especially the salads and the green juices. I always appreciate that the chef is willing to keep the sauces on the side for me. My only issue with any of the salads with chicken is that the ratio of chicken (90%) and salad (10%) is very off. This could be a cultural thing. But I prefer more of a balanced salad.
The juices are excellent. There are a few without any fruits, which is great for healthy eating.
The coffee is genuinely excellent, and I'm always down to have some coffee here. Either sit in or take out. I personally don't have milk in my coffee, but when I came with my friend, she couldn't have a cappuccino because they didn't have a dairy alternative, such as oat milk. I think this is unfortunate and easily solved.
The ice cream is great. And the kids love coming here on the weekends.
A shout-out needs to be made about the excellent quality meat. This is something I really appreciate a lot. As the cafe is associated with Village Market, I would expect nothing else.
My only real annoyance is the toilets. Based on the cost of the food and that they are trying to attract a certain type of clientele, I would expect much more from the toilet facilities. The number of times there was no soap and toilet paper is too much to count. The toilets also look cheap and at times dirty. It's just very...
Read moreI was forced into discovering this Cafe due to the frequent power cuts that we've been experiencing in Arusha. I had tight deadlines and I needed a place where I could work. Thankfully they have free wifi with excellent upload speeds and power outlets that you could tap into. Despite being in a public place, for some strange reason, I found myself in a state of flow and managed to achieve more than I usually do. The environment was peaceful and the constant flow of smoothies must have helped.
The staff are helpful and their service is top-notch. The food and drinks are excellent, and I heard the coffee's great too. If you need a place to work, have casual or professional meetings or you need a place to dine, I highly...
Read moreThis place used to be the go to place when i needed to work away from home, I couldn't be more frustrated with the service now. I would wait for an hour without anyone even noticing i was there and even if i waved at someone who seemed to be serving i just got a nod. And I'm not talking busy hours, there's a bunch of workers just chatting up in the corner having a laugh at all times. I can't... So Village Café is just another average local joint where if you want a cappuccino you better spend 5 more minutes to go to another place in town where there's...
