Som Tum Khun Kan is a well-known restaurant in northern Bangkok, famous for its delicious Isaan food. It is located in Sukhumvit 101 or 101/1, inside a small residential alley, so it may be a little tricky to find.

The restaurant has a large parking area and offers both outdoor seating and indoor seating with air conditioning. Every evening, there is live music. The staff are friendly, service is fast, and the food portions are just right. The restaurant uses high-quality ingredients, and the food tastes great for a reasonable price.

This place is best known for Isaan dishes, especially:

Somtum (Papaya Salad) – including Thai-style Somtum and Somtum Pu Pla Ra (papaya salad with fermented fish and crab) Crispy-Skin Grilled Chicken Honey Grilled Pork Neck Spicy Pork Soup with Soft Tendons For dessert, you must try:

Mango Sticky Rice – a perfect mix of sweet, creamy, and slightly sour flavors Khanom Krok (Thai Coconut Pancakes) – soft, sweet, and slightly salty We love coming here at least 2-3 times a month. Lately, we’ve noticed more foreign tourists visiting, which shows that this restaurant is becoming popular not just with locals but also with visitors from...

Don't come here if you are not drunk.

Waiter rush for ordering. Not recommended or give any advice on the Menu. Order some soup 1 portion ask me to confirm as a small size but only small size on the menu. He said his tablets also have big size. Oh I am sorry. Ask for re check what was ordered not really care to do that. Food arrived fast but under cook squids and have to wait for rice until its cold. come 2 person only one got the bottom cup.

Summary

Another wanna be that find dinner but lack on Service or Quality just a side roads food quality with a bit nicer place.

More shocking when you know the get Michelin guide. For my experience working in Oriental Hotel and 1 star Michelin in Italy. This place its way below standard.

Stay away not recommended.

Updated after 30 mins after meals i got really dry mouths. Have to drink a lot of water over dose of MSG! I am done with this restaurant this is unacceptable.

Staff = Nice uniform but low on training look polite but 0 point on overall understanding what services is .

Food = Not bad not interesting either.Use can coconut milk.

Ambient= Perfectly nice. A bit old Thai music.Terrible singer.

Parking = not...

We visited this restaurant many times since 2016, and were never disappointed. We brought in some foodies with us who were also impressed. The Isaan oriented menu is extensive and if you can't find your favorite choice, the kitchen is able to cook it for you. I personally recommend their grilled pork and their ho-mok, served in a large coconut, rich in all kinds of seafood. The elegant owner is very welcoming, including for the foreigners who can't speak much Thai (our case), but she is almost the only one who can help you in English. In fact you won't see many foreigners there, and we suppose it's a guarantee of authentic tastes. The decor is pleasant and there are a few indoor aircon sections. Important to note: since 2 years the restaurant has been credited with a Michelin guide rating. Happily the owner kept the competitive pricing unchanged. This deserves an accolade, unlike other places which lost their soul with the...

Hidden gem. Authentic Isaan & Thai food at good prices. Car parking available 100 mtrs away with a golf cart to take you to the restaurant. Great food and good friendly service. It was very busy but has plenty of tables (it's a big restaurant). I really enjoyed it and you can come just for beers and have snacks without having a full meal too. Seems at times they have a band playing but not on the night I visited. Anyhow I will return here and I can highly recommend this as clean family restaurant. Great value and I continue to return for a quality meal. My only critism is that the kitchen closes early so this restaurant is not a late night venue. They will ask you to pay and turn the lights off even though you haven't finished by 10 pm. So best to get there early. Visited today and unfortunately the meals were not as good as previously described. Quite disappointed.
