COCO Burrito Box — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

Goff has done it again. From opening Wrapmaster and then going on to creating Taco Lovers, he’s now opened Coco Burrito Box with his sister, Gift. This time he’s taken inspiration from the Pixar movie “Coco”, from the colorful interior decor to the menu, to the guitar inside the restaurant which, to him, is a symbol of doing what you love.

There’s enough seating inside for booking/planning for small intimate events, which makes it an ideal choice for groups that want to plan activities that take advantage of this location, which includes a minute’s walk to Wat Pong Noi, and a short distance from the artistic all-day craft market enclave of Baan Kang Wat. This wonderful area (Pong Noi) is a gem in Chiang Mai because of its natural surroundings, rustic vibe, and arts-and-craft markets.

I ordered the BBQ chicken “puff” which can only be described as a huge double-wrapped burrito sandwich, which has also and chips included in the box set. I also ordered a plate of chips and guacamole. The BBQ puff was good and hearty. And the chips had a satisfying crunch to them. Just like his previous restaurants, Goff freshly prepares his chips by frying them in-house, instead of getting them prepackaged from a supplier. All the ingredients are fresh and delightful.

Wow! This place was a find. They serve traditional or fusion burritos, tacos, and quesadillas (which they call puffs). Vegan or meat options. While there, we had the seasoned chicken nachos with homemade sour cream and salsa, the pulled chicken pesto puff, and the shiitake mushroom pesto tacos, all of which were scrumptious and reasonably priced. They have some great looking options for burritos as well, including Burmese tea leaf salad burritos, pork and beef. They sell their custom vegan sour cream and salsas to go as well. The restaurant is cute and clean, but the food was disappointing and too expensive. The tortilla chips were good, but the tortillas themselves used for the tacos and burritos taste a little strange.

I knew I wasn’t going to get an authentic Mexican flavor, but I was hoping that the Asian twist was still going to be tasty. Can’t quite put my finger on particular things, but the chicken and salsa flavors were just not that good.
