Kaeng Ron Baan Suan — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

I first visited this restaurant in 2017 when a 5 star rating would have been appropriate. Post-Covid, December 2022, I was disappointed by the slow service and no less than three dishes were delivered to our table which we had not ordered. We sent them back but they still appeared on our bill at the end of our meal! Fortunately, I was with Thai friends who spotted the discrepancy but had I been on my own I would not have known as the bill was presented in Thai language only. Like many, the restaurant was closed during Covid-19 and the staff laid off. I think it's going to take time to rebuild a cohesive team and achieve pre-covid service and food...

Traditional northern style Thai food. The place is a home whereby the lower level is converted to a seating area and kitchen. Very quaint surroundings that shout peaceful. Nonetheless this place may be filled with locals. Out of all the dishes that were fantastic, my fave was the Larb, which is a minced pork dish stir fried in spices and herbs. Their rendition of pork curry Hang Lay was also fantastic. This version sees the pork slow cooked in a thick gravy that resembles the Indonesian rendang. The fermented pork (naem) was also good.
