Update. Note that they have moved location. We recently went back to the old place and it was shut down. The new location in town is just now open. It is still very good and to the same standards as before, but I have to question if they will be able to maintain their high price point given the move from a ‘destination’ restaurant to a place closer to the touristy area of town where there will be more walk in traffic. Time will tell.
I have been meaning to try Tenyuu for some time. It was worth the wait. The decor is elegant but understated in true Japanese fashion, so you feel like you are in an authentic Japanese experience immediately. The food was excellent, some of the best Japanese food I have had outside Japan. They have some top end items here and you will pay for them, but it's worth it as a special treat. Highlights during our lunch included the Toro Roll and the Ebi Tempura Roll. We sat at the sushi bar to watch the chefs at work, but the outdoor seating is also nice. This is not a place for a 'quick and cheap bite', but it is a perfect place for a special occasion, high-quality, experience. This is one of the best high-end restaurants (of any cuisine)...
Read moreWhere do I start on this frankly seriously disappointing experience. To begin with our party of 3 walked into the entrance and were left standing around for an eternity even though the place was half empty. Waiters and manager were right in front of us but seemingly busy doing absolutely nothing. Not exactly a warm welcome.
Ordered three dishes of which one had run out so promptly ordered the staple go to pork krapaw instead. Sadly, said krapaw didn’t arrive at all leaving one of our party rather hungry. We had to ask about it and waiter said they had forgotten to input the order into the system. Charming, have to admire the honesty though.
At least we managed to get our cakes, coffee and tea which were adequate, nothing special.
I honestly feel quite sad about this. Wild Coffee is in a beautiful location and with a lovely interior but the service is poor and not befitting the potential of such an establishment. It is sadly punching way below its weight. Also, although I hate reading other reviews where people complain about pricing, I have to say that Wild Coffee is overpriced for what it is.
One tip to the staff, it doesn’t hurt to smile...after all we are in the Land...
Read moreGorgeous environment, excellent food, great service. The gardens and infrastructure here are meticulously maintained, with lots of lush greenery and mist, many interesting little spots to eat hidden around on several levels. The inside of the restaurant has beautiful, massive wood furnishings, and outside are a huge variety of settings to enjoy your meal.
It would be a great place for a long romantic dinner, or a quick lunch, or anything in between. The food was especially good, the piece of chicken in my Kau Soi was larger than any I've had, and the bowls and utensils are beautiful hand made ceramic. The pastries and desserts looked delicious, a perfect way to destroy my diet, so I passed on those...
It's a little more expensive than lunch in town, but their water bill alone must be massive, not to mention that everything has to be driven up the hill a long way from town. Also, the gardens are really spectacular, no "dead spots," with lots of great pottery and fountains, orchids everywhere and many delightful surprises all in a forested mountain setting, none of which comes cheap.
I found the service to be exceptional - they must have read earlier reviews and done...
