No doubt Don Vito's Trattoria And Wine Bar in Thalang is undoubtedly a "real Italian" - although the colours of the Ristorante are more reminiscent of Greek cuisine - there is definitely excellent pasta & pizza here.
Don Vito is located near the Laguna and directly across from Wine & Taste. I visited Don Vito on the recommendation of my friend Chef Roberto from Naithon for pizza and was not disappointed culinary.
As a starter, big black olives are served with core, they are delicious and certainly something special - if you like olives and I do.
I ordered a pizza Diavolo - but I asked for the Thai chili to be served extra - so I could determine the sharpness myself. In addition, I was provided with an oil with chilli and herbs if I wanted to season.
The pizza tasted great - the hot pepper salami was slightly burned and therefore it had the necessary roasted flavours. The mozzarella was not too wet and the pizza crocante - my compliment!
Since the pizza was a bit small for someone like me, I ordered a second - this time with some onion on top. Also, this pizza was delicious, but could not top the first one.
For dessert I had a tiramisu - this was very delicious and refined. In addition, there was a scoop of vanilla ice cream - which I should have better leave out, neither taste nor consistency made here the ice cream nation Italy honour - here I would in any case reconsider the brand again.
The Thai service staff were unfortunately not really friendly & open at the beginning - they changed with the time of my stay, but had not one of the bosses taken the time to look after me, my visit would not have been that spectacular. Upon entering the restaurant, I felt almost disturbing due to the reaction of the staff.
I personally feel the price level in Don Vito - at least as far as the pizzas are concerned - too high. The pizzas were delicious, but not too big (rather small) or from a wood fired oven - compared to some other good pizzerias on Phuket, over 500 THB is a bit to far.
Apart from that, I can recommend Don Vito when it comes to the taste of the pizza and the ambience.

We arrived and my dad who speaks Italian asked the chef upon entering if he had any space. The answer was "how do I know, I am the chef". My dad thought/hoped he misheard this reply and we were seated.
We Were quite excited about the menu which showed an Amalfi coast speciality. Prices for pastas not cheap. All around 650thb.
We started with bruschetta which was very good. The Frito misto though can with not fried, unseasoned and even half raw prawns. The calamari were good though. The vongole starter was ok, raw garlic was not ideal, but sauce was ok.
Mains of ravioli : 650thb for 5 ravioli that had unseasoned filling as water went in the ravioli and the dough was too thick and unflavoured tomato sauce. I had one last week in Khao Lak at "little Italy" and can tell you, this one did not even come close in taste
Pasta Nerano, same, no seasoning, lack of flavour.
Only the carbonara and the gnocchi had taste and were seasoned.
Half way through the meal we understood why when the chef stumbled in the restaurant shouting to his staff with a beer in his hand. He was clearly drunk.
Such a disappointment of what could have been a great meal. The staff was great and friendly though and you saw in their face the unease about...
Read moreI would expect much more from this restaurant as it part of the 5 star resort. Thus I would say my experience was bad.
Other than their sparkling water taste good I don’t think other dishes are up to standard especially at the price you guys are charging at.
My lobster pasta was literally tasteless. Unfair treatment between tables, another table was served with breads when waiting for their dish but ours weren’t and we have to request. Ordered their calamari and checked with them if they have tartar sauce but was told “it’s not Italian way to eat it with tartar sauce” maybe I’m a bit sensitive but I feel offended because even their olive oil doesn’t comes with balsamic vinegar. So Italian 🙄 and yes they serve me olive oil but never serve the bread
The pizzas were okay just that the crust is a bit too...
