I recently had the pleasure of dining at PRU Restaurant in Phuket for lunch, and it was an experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the high-class interior, which is both elegant and inviting. The attention to detail in the decor creates a luxurious yet comfortable atmosphere, making it a perfect setting for a memorable meal.
The quality of the food at PRU is simply unparalleled. Each dish is a masterpiece, crafted with precision and creativity. The flavors are well-balanced, and the presentation is nothing short of art. Every bite was a delight, showcasing the freshest ingredients and innovative techniques. It’s clear that the chefs at PRU are passionate about their craft, and this dedication shines through in every aspect of the dining experience.
One of the highlights of my visit was meeting the chef. Not only was he incredibly talented, but he was also very friendly and approachable. He took the time to explain each dish in detail, sharing the inspiration and thought process behind the creation. This added a personal touch to the meal, making it even more special. The chef’s enthusiasm for his work was contagious, and it was evident that he and his team work tirelessly to ensure every dish is perfect.
The staff at PRU were equally impressive. They were attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent service throughout the meal. They took us on a tour of the restaurant, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at their operations. It was fascinating to see the level of care and precision that goes into every aspect of the dining experience. From the sourcing of ingredients to the meticulous plating, PRU strives for excellence in everything they do.
During our lunch visit, we were given detailed explanations of each dish as it was served. The staff shared information about the ingredients, preparation methods, and the overall concept behind the dishes. This level of transparency and engagement added depth to the dining experience, allowing us to appreciate the food on a whole new level. It was clear that PRU values educating their guests and fostering a deeper connection with the cuisine.
The ambiance at PRU during lunch is another aspect that sets it apart. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful location, offering stunning views that complement the dining experience. The natural light streaming in through the windows creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely lunch or an intimate dinner, the serene surroundings add to the overall enjoyment. I highly recommend visiting PRU during lunchtime to fully appreciate the view and the relaxing atmosphere.
In conclusion, PRU Restaurant in Phuket is a culinary gem that should not be missed. Read moreWent last night with a friend and did the 7 courses. Really happy with it. It may possibly be the best dinner I have ever had. The asian ingredients were fused seamlessly with western ideas and ingredients. There were nice suprises like 2 amuses before the dinner. A little bag of treats to take home. Interesting bread and butters and a complex palette cleanser towards the end. The portion sizes were pretty good. Our booking was at 7pm and we both had a dish at around 3pm before going so by the end of it we were both happy. If we didn't have the 3pm dish and hung out all day I imagine we would have left a bit hungry. However, in my view it's an experience you are going for, not a big feed. I think if we just opted for the 5 courses it may have perhaps felt a little too light. I would recommend the 7 course. The dishes were all incredibly intricate. I have eaten and worked in michelin starred kitchens in the past and even compared to my past experiences this was very very detailed and intricate food. I had to put my glasses on to see all the components so I can't imagine trying to plate these up. The flavours and textures were pretty good. I particularly liked how they infused the pea tart with a BBQ flavour. It was phenomenal but I do have some feedback. My friend commented the butters were lacklustre. They wern't bad but I felt the tamarind butter was a little underwhelming and the salted butter tasted like Anchor with salt on top. Could be improved. The main thing was the descriptions. We are both Chefs and do the dinner for a bit of inspiration as well and like to really analyze everything and understand what each component is. I get the short menu descriptions. I don't particularly like long old school descriptions either. The staff explained each dish pretty well but even asking them to repeat sometimes it is hard to understand and we didn't want to be throwing 20 questions for every dish. I imagine we understood about 70% of what we were eating and a person that's not a Chef probably like 40 or 50%. Maybe a more detailed menu available on request I don't know. Other minor thing was odd questions before the dinner on the phone and during the dinner. "What hotel are you staying at". "Did you come by car or". Happy to answer. I'm not a secret agent but would be nice to know why they need this information. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed but that's another area they could really do something cool and improve with. Service for the most part was great. They had a good knowledge of the food they were serving and English was pretty good just a few words we got lost with. Anyway overall it was a lovely dinner. Total cost for 2 people 7 courses and a few random drinks each was around 20,000 baht. Certainly worth it if you appreciate the food but if you don't appreciate the food then I wouldn't bother spending so much on a dinner. Look forward to returning in the future if they ever have a new...
Read moreTortuous, unappetising food combinations that left us queasy.
The stylish decor, warm welcome, synchronised pouring of water along with delicious amuse bouche led to an exciting start at Pru, we marvelled at seeing an unusually huge scorpion (omen?) on the steps outside and spirits were high.
The staff were beautifully accommodating to our six year old son and we were given service in their private dining room. Here we managed to swallow a trypophobic presentation of durian and caviar. They allowed us to share wine pairings which all turned out to be pleasant. The best of the evening had now passed and we slowly realised that managing to ingest while consciously thinking ‘this has got to be good for our microbiome’ was as good as this meal was going to get. Several courses of beautifully plated disappointments followed and my adult daughter assured me her vegetarian menu was not a better choice. We often couldn’t hear the mumbled plate descriptions and like other reviews noted had to ask the staff to repeat them. The crab in the citrus salad reminded me of a bit of encrusted sea creature that flicked in my mouth of an old fishing net as a child. The crispy duck gave a palatable interlude before the ‘desserts’. Having marvelled at other reviews since (read between their lines, “unexpected combinations, unique, unusual, interesting, different, inventive” are indicative statements of The Emperor’s New Clothes) I agree with another comment that the kimchi dessert tasted of vomit, the texture matched and we could not manage to eat it. Each carefully presented treat had palate destroying ingredients included - why? Nothing could tempt me to try one of the final blue cheese and fermented mango chocolates, particularly my husband’s face after bravely (foolishly?) sampling one. Our usually venture-some appetite was utterly defeated. I feel the staff know their menu is challenging and we were not asked if we liked anything, why courses were left or if we would like to doggy bag our left over petit fours (no thank you).
Feeling truly ill I visited the rest room to be confronted with a toilet bowel of another patrons vomit, even the plumbing hadn’t managed to choke the food down and while unpleasant this wasn’t the most unappetising experience of my evening.
I note that the sadistic pairing of carte de jour and fleshy bill could be considered subtle genius in fetishist circles. It was tortuous but we survived, Pru will give us the story of our own costly bush tucker trial to dine out on for a long while. Memorably we really did enjoy seeing the huge scorpion running away on the front step as we arrived, perhaps we should have...
