This well-known restaurant has even received a Michelin award. Its focus is on serving rice porridge and various side dishes. Today, I ordered the kai krata (Thai-style pan-fried eggs), which tasted great. Another dish I tried was the claypot rice with Chinese sausage, but I found the taste less enjoyable. The sauce mixed with the rice had a strange smell, combined with a subtle hint of ginger that didn’t blend well. I didn’t try the rice porridge, so I can’t comment on that. Overall, it’s a decent place to grab a filling breakfast, though the prices are relatively high compared to the ingredients and portion sizes.
On the other side of the shop, there’s a souvenir section offering a variety of items, including Chinese sausages, moo yor (Vietnamese-style pork sausage), sai krok Isan (Isan sausages), and other pork products. Some are homemade by the shop, while others are sourced from external suppliers. Personally, I found the souvenir section more enjoyable than the breakfast area.
For parking, customers can use the roadside spots if available, or park at the nearby church, where the shop has put up a sign stating that parking is free...
Read moreThe restaurant looks great it could be one of the Khonkaen main landmarks!! With its building that looks elegant but offers a sensation of cozy and homie vibes. The breakfast served is great and has variety of options. As authentic as the beverages as well as food served, and the contemporary style of the local dishes which I strong believe that all the dishes are exclusively designed, the refreshing orange juice available, and believe it or not, the price of these dishes are very inviting and affordable. The system is good, the service is extraordinary.. Well-known for local local products, and trust me you won’t regret buying dried shredded pork, chinese sausage or any other stuffs available back home. Would highly recommend for both the locals and the non-locals. #มาขอนแก่นมาบ้านเฮง as the hashtag says and I couldn’t agree more to have this warm ambience, retro vibe yet elegantly...
Read moreBaan Heng is a true Khon Kaen treasure! The food feels like home — simple, comforting, and full of flavor. Their claypot rice with Chinese sausage is amazing — perfectly crispy at the bottom and fragrant all the way through. The signature sandwiches are fresh and packed with savory goodness, and the Thai-Chinese breakfast dishes like congee and pan eggs are light yet satisfying.
The place itself is cozy and nostalgic, with a warm family atmosphere. You can feel the history in every corner — from the old grocery roots to the neatly displayed local products and souvenirs. Staff are friendly, quick, and always smiling.
It’s no surprise this spot earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand. A perfect place for breakfast or a relaxed morning meal. Highly recommended if you want authentic local flavors and a real Khon...
