Tumkratoei Sagate — Restaurant in Khon Kaen Province

Oasis in Khon Kaen Now this place is another very special restaurant in khon Kaen. When you first arrive in the parking area you already get the feeling this is going to be great. Located very close to the airport , it is one of those special places you just have to check out if in the area.

I visited this place when it was hot...and I do mean hot (March 30 2023). The jungle theme with the waterfalls, fish and thick tropical foliage complete with automatic misters to add that "deep jungle" feel was totally a feast for the eyes and really added to the cool feeling of the place.

As I mentioned it was "hot this time of year whereby the steamy jungle atmosphere was nice to look at but not where I wanted to be for lunch. There are two restaurants one outdoor and one Indoor. The indoor restaurant boasts floor to ceiling windows, fully air conditioned and beautifully comfortable seats.

The whole place I would say falls easily Into a full 4 star dining destination. Service is top notch with what seemingly was a team on standby waiting for anything you may need.

The food was good. In my opinion the Tom Yum was the best I ever had in Thailand (and I have had many). The only negative I could say was that there was large gaps in time between dishes and being we were a group of 7 this was a a bit painful but not surprising as this is Thailand and this issue is a common service "thing" one can expect. If they could sort this out then the 4+ to 5 stars is there for the taking.

This restaurant has great reviews and is highly recommended by locals. It’s located not far from Khon Kaen Airport, making it a perfect spot for a first meal after landing. There’s plenty of parking available, but if you visit during peak dining hours, you might have to wait for a table. The restaurant offers both outdoor seating and an air-conditioned area. The decor is beautiful, with lush greenery and a waterfall that creates a cool, relaxing atmosphere.

As for the food, the flavors are quite mild, making it suitable for people from Bangkok, but it didn’t fully match my taste. The best dish I tried was the grilled fish with herbs. The fish was large, juicy, and tender, served with a flavorful seafood dipping sauce. The most disappointing dish was the crispy catfish salad. While it looked generous, the dish was mostly made up of batter, with very little actual catfish. It felt like eating fried flour with dressing, which made it overly greasy and difficult to finish.

Service - Had been there twice, and both experience were not recommendable! Although there seems to have many service staff walking around, but the staff were not trained to serve. For example, seeing the need to top up our drinking water, yet the staff can still stand at a corner and chit-chat. I had to always call for them to refill water for my guest. Food - Ordered around 12 dishes for 5 people. Nothing fancy or spectaculate. Taste wise, to name afew. Certain dish such as the phad thai tasted bland for my order. The yam woon sen was serve too wet much like a soup, and salty. The deep fry pork jerkies were fried overly dry too. Atmosphere - Well this I must say that it's one of the most beautiful places for photos or selfie if you like flora settings. There's also a live band offering rather pleasant vocals during dinner hours too. Overall I must say that if you have not been there then do pay them a visit and judge yourself whether...
