Came here for lunch to enjoy some Italian dishes. Picked this spot as the name Mozza is considerably known amongst friends who's dined in several restaurants of this chain in Bangkok. Despite their positive feedbacks from their experiences in Bangkok, I wouldn't consider the food here above average.
The food arrived timely - no hassle at all with the wait - which was good. My companion and myself had the salmon tartare for starters, and I must say it looked strange at first impression. In my understanding, tartare would consist of fresh raw salmon sliced in cubes or thin slices at most; whereas the plate I had resembled the look of some raw minced pork - even finer than those prepared in Thai larb dishes! The flavour lacked since tartares draw heavily on the produce freshness. As expected, the texture was nothing short of minced chunks of stuff, no solid fish freshness to be savoured. The temperature was also overly cold from the salmon, which got me thinking if the restaurant even has the right kind of fridge for such dishes. The seafood aglio olio spaghetti didn't really do justice as the sizes of the prawns and squid just seemed anorexic, although the larger tiger prawn was nicely cooked. The flavour was good however the spaghetti was overboiled. The strands tore apart quite too easily and some good amount of it I saw had already fallen apart since the plate. The truffle tagliolini was nicely presented and the sliced truffles were good, but it unfortunately it stopped there. The tagliolini strands were tacky it felt they were almost stuck to each other. I could only separate them in chunks and not individually in strands - comically feels the same way as slicing up pieces of some wrap. Enjoyed the fresh truffle flavours very much but the dish lacked salt - even a tad bit - which made the dish just flat. The black coffee was enjoyable.
The price is competitive but not absurdly high, which I understand for their good service and care from management. The restaurant is beautifully arranged and the design is fresh but the food needs tuning to...
Read moreRecently had dinner at this restaurant. Restaurant was busy and we did not have a reservation. My family of four walked up to the front entrance from the street where a man working for the restaurant was standing talking to what seemed to be friends. Stood patiently waiting until he was finished talking, for him to look over at us & state “what is wrong”, i said “are we please able to get a table for four” he collected the menus & rushed us to the table. We soon found out that this was infact the restaurant manager.
Once in the restaurant the customer service hardly improved. The lady looking after our table had no patience at all for the table ordering & kept cutting us off by helping other waitresses with whatever task they where assigned to. All staff where running around frantic, to the point the whole experience was stressful & left you feeling of an inconvenience for being there.
The food was sub par also, my husband ordered the chicken parma, which was so hard it was inedible, he was also quite unwell early hours of the next morning after eating here. The chicken had been cooked previously then obviously re heated with sauce ontop. I had ordered the lamb shank which was full of fat and unable to be eaten also, the best part of the meal was the mash potato it came with. Much better restaurants available in the area, when you’re paying Parma prices you might as well...
Read moreHas all the ingredients for a really good restaurant on Samui. But the food and service were just was not good enough. The wife had a mushroom risotto. Was hard and grainy. It's supposed to be an Italian restaurant. They gotta get the risotto right. Told the server. She asked : 'Do you want us to cook it some more?' First : 'HUH????'. Second : offer us a new one! Train them to inform the manager of any problems. My lamb shank was big and meaty, but the taste was only ok and menu showed a huge mound of peas and carrots. The reality was that I could barely see them in the gravy and they were the frozen stuff. I complained to the manager guy about the quantity and I mentioned the problem with the risotto. He looked annoyed at the cooks. He had them bring out a little thing of ONLY PEAS!!! Where were the carrots? And they eventually brought out the REMAINDER of the wife's risotto. It was better but still a little hard and grainy. The thing is that I waited for them to bring back the risotto so that the wife and I could eat together. So my lamb shank was cold when I ate it. We gave up, ate, paid and left. The whole thing was just handled badly by the manager guy who just failed miserably. Not...
