Mama Dang Bar, Restaurant & Massage — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

I have never written a google review before (or any online review for that matter), but I feel compelled to write this one because this was the best massage I’ve ever had and I would HIGHLY recommend Mama Dang Massage. My masseuse was lovely, incredibly professional, and took the time to do the most thorough Thai massage I’ve had so far, tailoring to my needs and problem areas. And it’s very affordable at only 300 baht for a 1 hour traditional Thai massage. The massage room is simple and no frills but incredibly clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable. If no one is in the room, go over to the restaurant next door and just let them know you want a massage and they’ll grab someone right away. I stayed right next to Mama Dang at Horizon Residence for about a week and I went everyday. The prices are reasonable and competitive for the area, but the portions are far more generous and the food is delicious as if I'm eating a home cooked meal. One of the good things about this place is that Mama speaks English really well, which made communication much easier. When ordering the green curry with chicken on my first visit, I mentioned to her that I can't eat spicy things well, and she made it really delicious without the spice. Everything I got thereafter wasn't spicy at all yet still delicious, all without me having to repeat myself. Mama's really sweet and funny. She told me dang means red in Thai so the whole place is decorated in red, but it looks really charming. I highly recommend this place if you'll be staying...

MAMA RIP OFF is a better name for her restaurant!! We ordered 2 drinks, neither of which had alcohol in them. Food was good but she gave us a unreadable bill that was 200bhat over and she took 42bhat in change that we had coming back. I have never had this kind of treatment in Thailand in 6 weeks and 7 destinations. All wait staff and business owners give a complete, legible bill and always respectfully bring your change back to you. They never say thank you and stick your money in their pocket...There are plenty of places to eat.. food is average for the island but if you sit down ....get ready for MAMA RIP OFF to get in your pocket..
