With that much advertisement flooding my social app, I just must come here to try. For I am a burger fan, and good burgers are hard to find in Thailand. So, the bacon lettuce and cheese it was for me. A burger in simplest form on the menu, the core of the patty shall expose as much of its untainted flavors to the wrath of my tastebuds. It was 180g of beef laid on a hefty slice of red tomato, some pickles and fresh crisp lettuce. The cheese just a slight molten atop the patty held the bacon. Would have loved if the cheese melted a bit more, and the bacon would have been great if it was cooked with more loving attention to bring out the balance of crisp among the sinfulness of oozing fats. The buns were tender and of a good slightly wrinkled fluff the way it ought to be. A large slice of fried onion ring raised the top bun to high rise level, breaking the normal profile of a burger. Being a vertical challenge for my jaws, I took the onion ring out. And then it was the first bite into the layered gastronomy. It was freshness throughout as the crumble of airy bun gave way to the crisp of the greens. A hint of vinegar and the rawness of the red tomato infused with meaty juices that had dampened the bottom bun. The bacon broke free uneasily requiring effort from my incisors, and the fusion of flavors began. It was a very clean taste vigorous with garden-freshness without that greasiness of a messy burger. It was a nourishing sensation synonymous with an uproar of health. And maybe, that is where the matter is for me, but not to others. The umami of beefiness did not punch through into my senses. The patty did not have enough of the seared zest I was anticipating, the beefiness seemed to have gotten lost in the blend. I know it was there, but it just wasn’t quite at the epicenter of it all like how an ultimate burger should have been. Scrutinizing the patty, I could see it was on the lighter shade of skillet cookery. There wasn’t any char, maybe they just didn’t want to overcook it. The ratio of patty to everything else seemed good, but somehow the greasy beefy characteristics wasn’t quite there. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a good burger. And they do have double patty versions which could intensify the personalities I am looking for.
One visit is not enough to get a good taste of Jim’s Burger’s varied appealing menu. So, within the week, I dragged my family here. With them around, it was a good excuse to order a variety of others, Fish & Chips was one. To my delight, the fish was no cheap dory, it was seabass. To my not so delight, it was not English styled. It was encased in a layer of breadcrumbs, I was still ok with that. But the fish was a very far cry from fresh and succulent. A good test of Jim’s meats was Philly Steak, the tantalizing concoction of BBQ based sauce was excellent. The bread again they got it right. It was a delight of crust and right fluffiness which soaked in the essence of meats and sauces between. Cheese gooey and of a good portion. The disappointment was the quality of the beef slices. It felt like 50% latex. It was a difficult chew, tender wasn’t the characteristics. Ordering up Crispy Fried Chicken for my kid, we were deceived. It was all skin and no meat. I know fried chicken skin is one of many signature Thai market foods, but please label that Crispy Fried Chicken SKIN instead of just Crispy Fried Chicken. The upside was, it had a hint of some special marinate that distinguished it from those in the markets. The curly fries, too long in the oil, the burnt aftertaste was evident. After my experiences, burger shall be the main highlight of Jim’s. The others on the menu are decent but do not set up expectations sky high. This makes a good evening chillout station with friends over a decent burger meal accompanied by imported beer they offer. A place that people seeking a non-Thai dining...
Read moreWell, I did it again. Went out with every intention of taking a photo before I finished eating, and well, the photo below tells you how that turned out. Anyway, we ordered the El Nino Burger, Onion Rings, and the Spicy Wings. As you can see it was all edible. Diving deeper, the El Nino Burger is kind of a burrito thing, but with a beef burger patty inside. With a little chilli sauce, I'd give it a 7/10. I'm normally not a fan of onion rings, but these were not as oily as many, and the batter fluffy. 8/10. Likewise, an 8/10 for the chicken wings, which needed additional chili sauce, but were otherwise delicious and the serving was generous. Jim's is not the cheapest place so I nearly rated 4 stars, but the portions are hearty, and service is a solid 10/10, truly exceptional. So a 5/5 for Jim's. Come...
