The Gardener Restaurant — Restaurant in Pattaya City

Just had a weird experience here. First, the food and service were good. The orange French Toast, two eggs, bacon, and latte were 355 baht. Sorta on the high end for brekkie, but totally expected and I was ok with that.

The wierd part was paying. I gave a 1000 baht note, and the young man behind the counter gave my change which was almost correct. But instead of giving me the 500 baht note, he gave me a 50 baht note. So, the till registered my change should be 645 baht. Instead, he gave me 195 baht and motioned from me to the door that we were good and I could leave. He was smiling.

Keep in mind that the till had separate trays for the different baht notes. There were separate trays for 20 baht, 50 baht, 100 baht, 500 baht, and 1000 baht. The bills are also different sizes and colors. The register clearly showed I was owed 645 baht, but he gave me 195 baht instead and was at the moment pretty happy about that. It just doesn't seem like an honest mistake unless a Thai business person operating a cash register does not understand Thai money.

I said "wait, you gave me the wrong change". A woman came over, said something, he smirked and shrugged his shoulders in an "almost gotcha" kind of way and took the 50 and gave me my 500 note. It was weird. It didn't feel good at all. And I left and will never...

I passed this place hundreds of times but today I actually went past again but then came back. What I like about The Gardener is the spacious seating area surrounded by plants and crafts, it was quiet when I went in, and that’s exactly the way I like it. Warm,y welcomed, clean menu with nice pictures, a little on the high side for food and drinks. I had an avocado smoothie, Macha Iced Latte and a club Sandwich. They must have read my mind, wifi password came right over. I enjoyed the bench seating with cushions, took a moment to looks at the crafts. The restaurant is very clean and nice and the staff were super friendly. Might be my new local, it’s so,close to me. Great first time.... I'll be back! I went for a firs time brunch experience as this was near my condo. I wanted to try their breakfast items and the Salmon Eggs Benedict was my choice. A bit under-seasoned but with great presentation and perfectly oozy eggs... I'll be back to try their other menu items.
