Koh Panyee is a remarkable village, the whole of it built out over the water on stilts and with a giant rock monolith guarding its rear. At lunchtime, many tourists on the James Bond Island tours are brought in to eat and shop for handicrafts.

Koh Panyee is a small island. Most of it is huge, almost vertical, limestone cliffs. The hundreds of huts, shacks, restaurants and houses where the villagers live are built on stilts over the surrounding shallow sea. No one seems quite sure how many wooden and concrete piles hold up this extraordinary community, but it’s certainly a fascinating and unique feat of informal engineering.

The tour was terribly long and boring, with too many people crammed on the boat. You're not the only boat that does this tour either. There are heaps of companies running it daily, so everywhere your tour goes, there are hundreds of other people. We got picked up from kata beach 730am and didn't get dropped back to our hotel till 7pm Not to mention, we got food poisoning/gastro that came on in the van on the way home that lasted for 5 days or more, which ruined our holiday. It's up to your trip orginazer where they will treat you lunch. But that restaurant was really great.
