We’re from the United States and staying at the Town in Town hotel right around the corner. Easy walk to Canes. You can walk along the side of the hotel and down the alleyway. Or out to the main road and around. The entrance is in the building on the left when you enter the parking lot. We didn’t see an obvious sign but it is there. Walk in and the restaurant is on the right. The Deep Fried Pork Belly with fish sauce is to die for. We’ve been to CANES twice this week. Both times we ordered different dishes and it’s all been excellent. The staff is friendly as well. What I found surprising is how few people were here. If this restaurant was in the United States it would be packed. They use a product called Meatly. Don’t know much about it but if it was available in the states I have no doubt it’d be popular. I really wish them the best and hope to return soon. My sister even said that she wishes she could pick the restaurant up and move it closer to home. Both times we’ve gotten the fried pork belly with fish sauce. All vegan and meatless. We even asked about it after because it tasted so...
Read moreI visited here one rainy Sunday afternoon with the Bangkok Vegan Meetup group. It is located on the side of Healthland. After scanning a QR code, we viewed the delectable menu and made our choices. Samples of smoked beetroot were given to our group to try. I ate the beetroot caviar with vegan egg, hamburg Don with rice and hazelnut chocolate lava cake with hazelnut ice cream. The vegan egg was gooey and runny, which really astonished me. The hamburg Don had a smokiness to it and was filling. ( I didn't enjoy the surprise wasabi on top) The hazelnut lava cake tasted just like Ferraro Roche, imo and was v.filling. Enough for sharing If you're already full.
Other members sampled the Spicy Boat Noodles and said they weren't overly spicy. The mushroom risotto was a good portion size and was delicious according to one member.
The food was delivered efficiently to our table of 12, and the staff were kind enough to explain spice levels and ingredients in different dishes.
My only bug bears were the lack of drink choice and the cold air conditioning....
Read moreCanes really takes plant-based food to a new level. With their scientific techniques, they create textures and flavors that make you forget that you are eating a plant-based dish.
Their carbonara is rich and creamy with the mind blowing plant-based egg with runny yolk and delightful texture that would fool anyone on a blind taste test.
Their pumpkin soup is flavorful and utterly creamy.
Their beetroot tartare is a joy to dig in, with all the crunch and caviar which lends its wonderful colors to the overall visual as well as textural contrast.
For vegans, Canes also offers Wolffia globosa, a tiny vegetable which is the only type of plant which harbors natural plant-based vitamin B12. I add a scoop to every dish I tried and my! how it has transformed my dishes to add the umami taste (no bitterness). With added scoops, I can now rest assured that I have completed my recommended amount of daily B12.
My experience with Canes has been absolutely delightful and I cannot wait to go back and try...
