Jep's restaurant (ร้านอาหารเจี๊ยบ) — Restaurant in Rayong Province

Let me preface this review by saying that the food options on Ko Samet are bare bones, so my expectations were not high for this restaurant.

First, what was okay (at best): the flavors of the food. They make decent Thai and Indian, and that’s where what’s “okay” ends despite a 38 page menu!

Now, the bad and worse: service and kitchen ineptitude. We ate here twice, and both experiences were error filled fumbles, complete with poor excuses for their mistakes and a lie about the check.

Nothing comes out of the kitchen at the same time. The first night, my meal came out 22 minutes after my wife finished hers. The second night, they brought her the wrong dish, requiring the kitchen to remake it, taking another 15 minutes. When it finally came out, it was not quite what the menu described, missing many of the key ingredients explained on the menu which she was excited about eating. At this point, she was so hungry that she gave up and just decided to eat it....until she found a black hair.

On night one, we paid with a credit card. On night two, when we finally asked for the check, it was another table’s. When they brought it a second time, it still had two items that we didn’t order. You’d think the third time would release us from this nightmare which we were ready to wake, but when I put down my credit card I was told, “No take credit card.” Now, we know that was an obvious lie because of our experience the night before...so I insisted that they take the credit card, which was met with a scoff as she trudged off. When she finally returned with my card I knew I had to write a review so others know about the House or Horrors they might...

Came for BBQ. Got message from server that BBQ menu started in 45min. Thats fair enough. We only got one menu at the table, so when first person looked at the menu and said he wanted grilled chicken and passed the menu to the next person, the server just left the table After the others found out what we wanted for dinner we had to wait for quite a long time before server came back. And when he came to take our order, he came with the first persons food 😳 Before the others even ordered 🤦 I ordered crispy pork morning glory. But first after 10min the server came back and said they did not have that in. So had to select something else. And ofc got the food long after my friends.

We ordered the happyhour deal of 2for1 beer. They only had that deal for Heineken 0.5l draft, and we ordered that cause a HappyHour deal should be an actual deal imho, so didnt bother to calculate the price vs domestic brands. Cause how crazy could it be🤷 We asked if it was possible to order the happyhour, but only get served one beer at the time, so that the beer didnt stand in the heat and get hot. That was NOT possible. Had to get both beers served at the same time 🤷🤯 Whyy? Just why. Dumbest rule ever. And when we got the bill we saw that the price for the beer was very high. Even with happyhour deal. My mistake for not reading the small details 🤦

But the food we got tasted good, but everything else was terrible and making us absolutely not recommending this place or...

Good restaurant, nice food (when compared to the rest of the island) and very bad service. If the staff here was trained properly and learned some English it would give you a very nice experience. The place is cosy, funny, comfortable and relaxing. Few times we ordered something and get something else that we did not order. The food and the drink a quite nice BUT the service is appalling! The staff here look like they are forced to work, they do not smile and when they see you they make you feel not so welcomed. I don’t know if they have problem with honesty or just their sleeping mood let them make mistakes: once I had couple of friend visiting, they had some food and drink and they told me that they paid for it, we stayed all the rest of the day on the beach and when we were going back to our room I had to pay for my bill and also for my friends that already paid their bill, I try to tell them but no way, for them my friends did not pay. The day after I contacted some management staff and I explained what happened but of course he did not trust me or my friend, only after going through the video recorded on the premises he could see my friend paying to one member of the staff that or forgot to record the payment or just tried to screw us up. So check always your bill...
