I was here this evening for dinner. I am a first time visitor to Hat Yai and I learned how popular this southern Thai restaurant was with tourists and locals alike. Although, I was on my own - which I regret as I could have used "some help" trying as many dishes here as possible - I "limited" myself to ordering "just" these dishes: a small "fish of the day" crispy fried black pomfret with crunchy garlic, a signature spicy Kaeng-Kaghee soup with pork, and a plate of cabbage and fish sauce - and of course, I also ordered a plate of steamed jasmine rice and (just in case) a bottle of still water. We decided to take their recommendations seriously, and I'm glad we did. The dishes we ordered were delightful. However, the tom yam didn't quite hit the mark for me. It’s probably just personal preference. Despite that, the rest of the meal more than made up for it. Their preparation of pomfret, in particular, was exceptional. The flavors were well-balanced, and the fish was cooked to perfection—definitely a highlight...
