Mumthong — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

This is a truly local Thai restaurant in the heart of island's administrative town capital of Nathon. Situated at a busy 'T' junction, opposite the Administrative Office, it is a great place from where to watch the world go by. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, the indoor seating has now been enclosed and is air-conditioned. The restaurant is family run, and offers a wide selection of both Thai and western meals and all at a very reasonable cost. We ate lunch here in March 2025. This place is very popular with the cruise ship crowd. It is one block from the pier. There is a wide assortment of entries to choose from but we stuck to the classics of Massaman Curry and Pad Thai. Both were prepared with fresh crisp vegetables and the curry had tender chicken. The spice level on the pad Thai was mild but the curry was spicy. I like very spicy food and I found it quite enjoyable but my wife said it was too spicy for her. Have been a regular customer of Mumthong for 20 years now and the food and staff are as always the best. The owner Dang is a wonderful friendly lady who always does her utmost to make everyone feel welcome.
