Very, very well organised. Also, the ferries were very frequent, and the staff (including the lady at the ticket counter) were very helpful. If you are towards the pier and staying on the other side of the island, this place always has some transport available. It's a bit far (almost 35 mins from Chaweng and Lamai) from where most of the resort and hotels are (including Bofut, which takes about 20-25 mins). A tuktuk takes about 100 Baht from the pier to Chaweng/ Lamai. But while coming from the other side, it practically depends on your luck. The fare from Lamai or Chaweng to the Pier could be anything from 200- 500 (negotiate well). Baht, depending on the time of the day and availability of transport. This is the main pier that connects the mainland (Surat Thani) and Koh Samui. If you are flying from the Surat Thani airport (or flying in..) buy the ticket from the airport or Nathon Pier (its bus plus ferry - about 400 Baht). One issue at the pier: there are no food stalls or anything. So if you have to wait, then it's a bit of trouble. Bit ferries are very frequent, so usually, the waiting time is not that much at all. Last but not least, like everywhere on the island, Nathon Pier is very scenic...

Don't ask a Muggle in the line because they have likely just guessed. Go to the front and look at what's written on the A4 peice of paper stuck to the window.
Also a little tip. When queuing for the ferry. If you have a big bag or suitcase make sure you head towards the right hand queue.. because that's where the front of the boat will be. And that's where the bigger bags need to go. If you just have an avasage rucksack then either entrance is good.
If only there was some sort of sign telling you this that could be put at the pier?? Because what actually happens between December and march is utter confusion and chaos.
The staff at the ticket window will tell you to wait in the ticket area. But I strongly suggest that you walk towards the pier once you have your tickets. (even if you have a printed out voucher from 12go or another online source you still need to take this to the window to get your...
Read moreNathon Pier is the main ferry terminal in Koh Samui and the gateway to the island for many travelers arriving from the mainland and nearby islands. It’s a busy but well-organized pier, serving as a hub for Lomprayah, Seatran, and Raja Ferry services.
The area around the pier has plenty of small shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it easy to grab a quick meal or refreshments while waiting for your ferry. There are also ATMs, convenience stores, and local markets nearby, which is convenient for travelers.
The views from the pier are beautiful, especially during sunset, making it a surprisingly scenic spot. However, it can get quite crowded, especially during peak travel times, and the boarding process can feel a bit hectic at times.
Overall, Nathon Pier is a functional and essential transit point in Koh Samui. While it may not be a major attraction, it offers good facilities and easy access to the island. If you're catching a ferry, arriving a little early is a good idea to avoid any...
