Baba Nest — Restaurant in Wichit

The good: As advertised, the view is fantastic. It is subject to the weather and the sky, so some nights will undoubtedly be better than others. My night for example was decent, but nothing amazing. The staff however are fantastic and amazing people. Serving everyone and taking photos and videos of couples. Helping people pose, and move around the roof top to get the best photos that can be taken. Koodoes to them and their work.

The bad: Not all spots on the roof are the same. Some will offer better views of the sunset, others, not so much. There are poles at all corners which obstruct the view and photos of the sky. The poles hold up a sting of lights to illuminate the roof at night once the sun goes down. Is there a better way to do this? Probably. I'm thinking LED's in the floor around the edges. But that's neither here nor there.

The issue: The food... The cuisine is stated to be mexican tapas... I'd say it was Tex-mex, and a bad one at that. The price does not follow the food quality. This is not somewhere you are going for food. If you are planning on going, paying the 2000 Baht/person, get one or two food items and dump the rest into drinks for the night. It's not worth staying there to eat. If I had known this ahead of time, I would have a light dinner at the local restaurants prior to going to the roof, and then just drinking the rest of the evening. I'm not a heavy drinker, but in this case, it would have been better...

What a disappointment.

Booked ahead, asked for a table on sunset side. They can’t guarantee, have to arrive early. Fair enough. So we arrived early.

Left us waiting 5 mins standing in the humidity of the parking lot until a tuk tuk picked us up to reception.

We asked for the table on sunset side again. Have to do ATK test first. 150 THB per person. Outside test not allowed.

After the test they told us the minimum spend. It was 2000 THB per person, double of what the reservations lady on the phone told us (not per person). They didn’t even tell us about minimum spend at all when we reserved initially. Only when they called 1h before to confirm we’re coming we got informed.

We asked again about the table. Told us have to pay first before they can confirm.

No thanks. Need to improve their processes and coach staff better to be more customer-oriented. They were more busy explaining all the things that are not possible, instead of trying to understand our simple wish. Especially at a place that wants to be so exclusive we would want to be treated a lot...

My friend and I were super excited to find this place and manage to book (3weeks in advance). Location is beautiful, I enjoyed the greeting and tuc tuc ride up, people seemed pleasant. The problem tho is, the quality of food and drinks. We ordered tacos, which had barely any meat in them, showered with cheese instead and nachos (they were okay but had very little topping to chip ratio) you can’t really call it tapas, it’s just Tex Mex starters. Real disappointment is the 500bhat drinks that were just bland and watered down. No flavor whatsoever.

Service is a little slow, took 13-15minutes to get a drink and if you consider that there were only about 30 people in, it’s worrying.

All in all, I enjoyed the place for the views and staff are nice, but for a 5 star resort and the hype of “best rooftop bar on earth” I’ll have to disagree.
