How dare they call this a five star hotel?? It's as if they built a big lobby fringed with high end stores and felt they did not have to do anything more. The service was terrible. Complete nonchalance and boredom on the part of the staff (a few of the male managers were okay) When we tried to change money we were told that the only person who could do that had not yet arrived. When we tried again a few hours later was told they had left for the day. We went into the street to change on the black market. Other simple requests were met with confusion or a bored look. The breakfast buffet was standard, nothing special. And dinner was even a worse experience. Looking forward to a nice meal, we arrived to find there were no available tables because they were all filled with people not staying at the hotel who had come to watch the big screen tv.. (A hotel regular confided that the restaurant made more money from the drinkers and tv watchers) I sat at the bar and ordered a simple meal of rice and vegetables. Three bowls arrived: one had sticky clumps of cold white rice, the other cold, soggy, unfresh vegetables that had to be sent back. The third bowl was some sort of sauce that actually made me sick throughout the night. The rooms are 4 star at best. They do not have bathrobes or slippers or mini-bar or coffee maker, or pens or stationary. The bathroom is dangerouse....a glass shower wall that nearly collides with the entry wooden door...scary to navigate when the floor is wet. Needless to say this hotel has none of the ammenitiies that other five stars might have....no welcoming glass of juice or fruit in the room, no welcoming note in the room. There was nothing in terms of decor, cuisine, service, attitude that made us feel welcome. People are fooled by the long driveway and grand lobby into thinking this is a luxury hotel, but there is nothing here to deserve a five...
Read moreThis ended up being a very strange stay, and I wish I could give a higher review. Upon checking in, the hotel has 2 reservations under my name, for one night, on the same date, and both booked through Expedia. The front desk staff couldn't cancel one of them without charging me the full price. ||So I called Expedia, and they said they wouldn't charge me, as long as the hotel would agree of the duplicate booking. I spoke to the front desk manager, Libert, who wasn't helpful at all. He kept saying that there's nothing he could do about it and wouldn't even speak to the Expedia representative who was willing to not charge me.||But because of his stubbornness and unwillingness to help me, Expedia couldn't do anything about it. Then, the room we got was very dated (one bedroom apartment), the AC didn't work, and there was no supplemental bedding for the couch. Went down to the front desk and, again, very hesitant to help without charging us more money. It's just completely unacceptable||They finally gave us a room where the AC worked, as well as supplying us with some bedding supplies for the couch. The room had fantastic views of Independence Square, and the amenities were nice. Bed and pillows were also comfortable. ||The highlight of the place has to bectheir phenomenal restaurant on the 27th floor, where we got an incredible meal, with outstanding service. The views were awesome, and the live entertainment added to our evening. Checkout was smooth, and the front desk clerk Solim was very friendly and attentive to the complaint we had. Overall, the place is pretty good with some great amenities. I just wish the front desk staff and their manager cared to make us feel welcome and not try to "extort" more money...
