We were excited to try Evim based on the reviews, expecting an affordable, homemade meal in a simple, no-frills setting. Unfortunately, what we got was a mediocre, pre-cooked meal that wasn’t even hot, and I’m almost certain we were overcharged just for being tourists.

Located in Cesme’s historic area, Evim is a tiny, hole-in-the-wall spot run by an older woman. It’s not really a restaurant in the traditional sense — all the food is pre-made and sitting in trays, nothing is freshly prepared. There were no desserts, limited drink options, and they don’t even have their own bathroom. We did enjoy their outdoor tables! It was the perfect spot to enjoy our meal.

We ordered a variety of local dishes — rice, potatoes, two meats, and two beers — and it ended up costing us over 2,000 Turkish Lira, which was outrageous. A meal like that should have been 1,000 Lira at most. Some of the food was microwaved, while other dishes were served cold. Was it good? Sure, but nowhere near worth the price.

The most frustrating part was when we got the bill. The woman gave us three different totals. First, she said it was 1,400 Lira, which I paid, but then she claimed I hadn’t given her enough money. I pointed to the receipt, and she apologized, saying it was wrong. Then she came up with a whole new, much higher total, before finally knocking off 300 Lira to settle on a third number. It was confusing and frustrating, especially since she charged us double for many of the mezzes, even though the portions were clearly for one person. She seemed nice at first, but by the end, I felt...

Thanks to all the other 5* reviews we decided to give Evim a go. And they weren’t wrong. It’s a very unassuming small cafe, down a side-street away from the hustle and bustle of the port. The woman who runs the place (and does all the cooking) is fabulous. We communicated via Google translate (what a marvellous invention!) and she served me up a delicious vegetarian meal (the small stuffed peppers were melt-in-the-mouth delicious) and despite my initial worries that there wasn’t enough for me to eat, I came away stuffed - and it was so good not to be eating the usual meze that all the other places serve. This is home-cooked with love. One word of warning… we asked for “Turkish wine” and got a very large glass of fortified red wine which did me in for the rest of the night!! Perhaps stick with soft...

Restorana girdiğimde işletmeciye kredi kartımın bazen sorun çıkardığını, denemek isteyip istemediğini sordum. Bana “buyurun oturun” dedi.

The best restaurant to try authentic Turkish food!!! I’ve visited various parts of Turkey and hands down this comes right at the top for me. It is family run restaurant and the lady cooks herself. She was extremely kind and so pleasant to talk to. The food is genuinely made with love that you can taste♥️. We ordered Manti, Stuffed Zucchini, Kofta aubergine and a lovely fresh salad. Everything was so so flavoursome and fresh and the prices were very reasonable It’s a small cafe restaurant with a honest heart! Would absolutely recommend trying it!! Love it♥️

We had such a beautiful experience at Evim. The owner was incredibly kind and made us feel so welcome, as if we were visiting a friend’s home. She put so much love and effort into preparing our manti — it truly tasted homemade, full of heart and warmth. If you’re looking for authentic food and genuine hospitality in Çeşme, this is the place. We left with big smiles and full hearts. Thank you!
