We went there with my father last night. They were out of ribeye steak and told us it was because it was the end of the week, but I’ve read in the reviews that this seems to happen quite often. When the bill arrived, the waiter — a man, not very old, with chubby cheeks — had added a line with no description and an amount that didn’t match anything we had ordered. When we asked for an explanation, he brought a new bill with a much lower total and said it had been a mistake. I honestly think the intention was to scam us. My father paid and even left a tip, but despite all that, the waiter became extremely aggressive — he practically threw him out of the restaurant. I was scared; I thought he was going to hit him. That kind of behavior is unacceptable.
I’m holding back from posting about it on my social media, where I have a large following, because I don’t want this to happen to anyone else. On top of that, I vomited all night — their Iskender was so greasy, I think it caused food poisoning. I was trembling...
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant since I’m a little kid. The place is an institution. There are a few things you can only find in Gelik:
rice with mushrooms and dill from oven. This dish has been a staple since childhood and one of my favorites.
kuyu kebap. This tandoor kebab is insane. It is cooked inside the “hole”.
döner kebap. One of the best in the city along with Beyti, it is the phenotype of döner kebap.
Gelik köfte. These meatballs have embedded cheese inside. Definitely recommend.
künefe. This desert takes about 20 minutes to prepare so make sure to order in a timely way. It is sweet with a sorbet sauce and has melted cheese inside (sounds weird but it is a dream)
Finally, they make their own mustard, you have to try it. Be careful as if is insanely spicy,...
Read moreIt’s been 30 year since I started visiting Gelik. Recently visited the place with my father and we split two sandwiches-Döner Sandwich and Kuyu Kebabı Sandwich.
Kuyu Kebabı: the same savory juicy taste. Just like day 1. The spice balance was so good.
But, I can’t tell the same for döner. It was even obvious when I saw the meat on the rotisserie. It looked a bit dry and overcooked to me. Therefore I didn’t enjoy the taste as much as I did thus far.
The pita bread was really good though. Very well baked and crunchy.
Pretty fast service, clean and comfy tables. Has outdoor seating, too.
Stupid parking fee policy of 80TL! For what? Your taste has already deteriorated and you’re losing customers because of paid parking. Hope you...
