My recent visit to Macakizi in Bodrum left much to be desired, especially considering its Michelin star status. While the ambiance is undeniably beautiful, both the service and food failed to meet expectations.
Restaurant Experience: The restaurant offers a five-course meal, which is usually a highlight of dining at a Michelin-starred establishment. However, each course was simply dropped at our table with no explanation of the dish or its preparation. For instance, our last dish was delivered with just a brief "this is the last course, enjoy," which is quite atypical for a Michelin-starred restaurant. The pacing of the meal was another issue. Despite being there for almost two hours, we left feeling hungry. The courses were small and of such quality that they could have been served in 30 minutes.
Service Issues: We were served two amuse-bouches, which, by definition, are complimentary offerings from the chef. However, we were surprised to find an additional charge on our bill for these and the bread. When we inquired about the charge, we were told it was for the amuse-bouches and bread. Charging for items that were presented as complimentary is unacceptable.
Overall Impression: In summary, if you are visiting Macakizi for the view and ambiance, you won't be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a complete dining experience that justifies a Michelin star, you may find it lacking.
Macakizi has great potential given its beautiful setting, but significant improvements in service and food quality are necessary to truly earn and justify its...
Read moreWe went with my wife on July 24th for what we hoped would be a romantic dinner and unfortunately got treated like crap by several of waiters.
It all started from the minute we sat down, with the waiter looking after us trying to get us to order the food right away, and giving us the cold shoulder when I said we just want to order the wine for now and enjoy ourselves a bit…his look was so so annoying, I can’t begin to describe it. This continued through out the evening, with a different waiter who was looking after our table every so often treating us even worse…when I asked for our water glasses to be replenished, he literally splashed the water everywhere as if he couldn’t care less and had better things to do.
The unfortunate conclusion for us is that Maçakızı establishment does not aim to cater to Turkish patrons (Turkish looking and Turkish speaking), otherwise they would be training their staff to treat all customers equally, which clearly was not happening during our dinner as we had the opportunity to observe the same exact waiters on how they catered to the Russian and English speaking customers.
At the end we paid 21,400 tl, more than 500 USD for two people, and got treated like crap in return. The only saving grace was the beautiful view and atmosphere.
Very disappointing that such a well established and reputable hotel/restaurant does not ensure the behavior of all their staff reflect...
Read moreThis is probably the most famous hotel restaurant in Bodrum, and I've had the pleasure of visiting numerous times. My review this time is about the daytime restaurant. We were given a beautiful table overlooking the sea, but unfortunately, not all tables are well shaded from the sun, and in July it can get quite hot. The daytime menu is completely different from the dinner menu. Although it's simple, I was hoping they would offer something a little more unique, considering how distinctive the nighttime menu is. We ordered a grilled seabass, which was perfectly cooked, along with grilled jumbo shrimp that were still juicy. We also had an array of mezze salads from the daily buffet to complement our main dishes. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive, enhancing our overall experience. The only minor drawback was the...
