Pierre Loti is a well-known hilltop café and tourist destination located in Istanbul, Turkey. This stunning vantage point offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Bosphorus Strait, making it a must-visit attraction for both locals and tourists alike.

The café is named after the famous French writer and traveler, Julien Viaud, who went by the pen name Pierre Loti. The author was an admirer of Istanbul and spent much of his time at this very café, admiring the stunning view and finding inspiration for his literary works.

The café's terrace provides a spectacular view of the Golden Horn, the famous historic harbor of Istanbul, and the old city skyline, including the iconic mosques of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. It's an ideal spot to relax and soak up the picturesque views of the city while enjoying a traditional Turkish tea or coffee.

The café itself is charming and rustic, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes visitors feel at home. The interior is decorated with traditional Turkish artwork, and the furniture and fixtures add to the ambiance of the place.

Aside from the stunning views and cozy atmosphere, the café is also known for its delicious Turkish cuisine. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of traditional Turkish dishes, such as meze plates, kebabs, and other delicacies while enjoying the stunning views.

Overall, Pierre Loti is an iconic destination in Istanbul that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Whether you're a first-time visitor to Istanbul or a seasoned traveler, a visit to Pierre Loti is an experience that you won't...

Pierre Loti is an unmissable attraction in Istanbul. Located in Eyüp. The hill is named after the French writer, Julien Viaud. The writer settled in Istanbul, where he used to come to the cafe and write his novels. Later he changed his name, so this hill was then named after him. Romantic and unique atmosphere with a touch of the past. You can drink coffee and smoke a hookah with a view of the bay, and of course you can also eat. From here there is an incredible view of the Golden Horn and the surrounding historical places. Louis Marie Julien Viaud, aka Pierre Loti, born in Rochefort, France, was a naval officer and noted writer. He lived in Eyüp while he was in Istanbul and always called himself a Turkophile. Pierre Loti, who has been to Istanbul several times, first came to Istanbul in 1876 as an officer on a French ship. Loti was influenced by the Ottoman way of life and mentioned it in many of his works. Here he met the woman who gave the name to his novel Aziyadé. He wrote Aziyadé in a cafe called “Rabia Kadın Kahvesi” in Pier Lota. I definitely recommend coming to the hill by the beautiful road along the old cemetery and not by funicular because the impression is different or...

Why is the place known as Pierre Loti hill? Pierre Loti, the pseudonym of Louis Marie-Julien Viaud, was a French author and navy officer who is said to have come here for inspiration, and fell in love with Istanbul after his first visit in 1876. Instead of settling in Pera district like most Europeans, Loti moved to the holiest neighborhood of the city, which non-Muslims barely visited at the time.

The author describes the splendid view from the hill: “Away to the east is the Golden Horn, with thousands of gilded caiques dancing on its water; then the whole of Stamboul foreshortened, mosques, domes and minarets, all huddled together in one confused blur.” Although the cityscape Loti appreciated is no longer the same as the one we see today, the hill remains a precious, serene spot offering a unique view of Istanbul.

Pierre Loti hill offers views across the Golden Horn and is a popular weekend destination for locals, who relax here over cheap tea, coffee and ice cream.

You can enjoy views by going up and down the hill by a cable car,...
