Yengec Restaurant — Restaurant in Fethiye

We were recommended this restaurant by a local Turkish business. Service was not good. It seemed like they couldn't be bothered. We ordered drinks, mine was a gin & tonic. When it came it tasted like bitter lemon without any hint of alcohol. We ordered grilled salmon. The waiter came & literally threw cutlery onto the table. Our food came but we didn't receive any bread before this even though we could see other tables had bread and the waiter was setting up tables ready for the evening with oil & balsamic vinegar for breads. We ordered a 2nd drink with our meal and my gin & tonic was totally different to the first. It was a proper G & T and I could taste the alcohol in it. We weren't given any napkins either. When the bill came we questioned the first drink I had. The waiter insisted it was the same as the 2nd but it seemed they were 'trying it on' to get us to pay for something we hadn't had. They also added a service charge of 840tl. We questioned this too as the service was appalling. Prior to the meal we were talking about booking for our final night of our holiday there. I visited on the first day of Bayram (celebration following Ramadan) which happened to be my first day in Fethiye. My choice was based on the high reviews. We called prior to the visit and asked about the availability of fresh fish and booked a table accordingly following their response listing the many types of fresh fish available on offer. Once we arrive I notice that they don't seem to be open, we are the only table at the restaurant. Upon inquiry we are told that they are not usually crowded for lunch. We are also told that not all appetizers (mezzes) are available since they just started preparing. I ask about the fish and I am lead to the kitchen where I am presented with two medium sized fish. Just two, the rest i am told are frozen. Having called in advance and enquired, and booked, I felt cheated and lied to. Went here because of the lovely /high reviews expecting something a bit more high brow.

Unfortunately, the experience and food were nothing special. Food was bland and fish was overcooked. Our fried starter was undercooked and had raw flour, they did take this off the bill which is good. The service was ok. Definitely some waiters hired for the season but they were untrained and walking around ‘looking busy’. Wine was also poured in the wrong glasses and vegetables going out of date were used, we also think some of the vegetables/bread were re-used from old tables.

This was a very expensive meal for what it was and we felt no one cared to do a good job - no one even asked us how our meal was.
