My recent iftar experience at Ninive Bab Al Shams left much to be desired. Gathering with a group of 17, we had high hopes for a memorable birthday experience, but unfortunately, it fell short in every aspect.
From the moment we arrived, after being served the unbearably bitter grapefruit juice, it was evident that our expectations wouldn't be met. The beautiful location, while promising at first glance, couldn't compensate for the series of disappointments that followed.
The food was despicable. The chicken dish, in particular, emitted a foul smell and tasted equally unpleasant. The "tagine" or kedra was bland and tasteless. Even the soup, was ruined by soggy croutons that seemed to have been left in it for far too long. In fact, it felt grossly overpriced considering the subpar quality of the food and service. Actually I barely ate anything even after a full day of fasting, that’s how bad the food was.
To add insult to injury, after expressing my concerns to the waiter about the quality of the food, I was assured that the manager would come to speak to me but he never did. This disregard for customer feedback only added to ou frustration and disappointment with the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, our iftar experience at Ninive Bab Al Shams was nothing short of disappointing. From the unappetizing dishes to the lackluster service. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out other...
Read moreWe booked in for dinner on the 4th day of this restaurant opening, and there were considerably a few teething issues with regards to everything.
Firstly, the atmosphere - whilst the vibe was great, the music was turned up a bit too loud. The restaurant was also very dark - very limited lighting making me pull out my phone torch to see the food / see what I was doing.
The food was slightly below par - albeit a bit inconsistent. There were some dishes which were out of this world and very good (i.e. Baby Chicken, Lamb Shoulder & Chicken Starter). The meats were juicy and tender and very top quality.
However, dishes like the Salad was too sour, and the Tagine was disappointing. The chicken was very dry and over cooked and lacked flavour. Not like the genuine Moroccan Tagine. The starters came out quite quickly but we had to wait close to an hour for the main courses.
The service was good - our server was very helpful and did his best. When we fed back the dishes to the manager he was very apologetic and helpful and we were very appreciative of that. Staff here was the best part of our visit.
Overall, understandably a few teething issues but significant room for improvement for a new restaurant. Hopefully the feedback gets taken in and this restaurant will become so...
Read moreWe visited the Ninive restaurant located at Bab al Shams. The site is fabulous, and the location is incredible. However, we were disappointed by the restaurant's service. First, the valet parking was denied because the security personnel did not understand that we had a reservation at the hotel. Thus, we were forced to park outside the hotel. Then, the service was particularly poorly organized. Being fasting, we were expecting dates and milk at the beginning of the meal. They served starters, and we had to ask twice for dates and milk during Ramadan, which is quite astonishing. Moreover, the servers were not organized at all. They brought meals progressively but did not really follow our progress or the advancement of our meal. I had mentioned that it was my wife's birthday and asked twice for them to bring a dessert with a candle, as is done in all restaurants. They completely forgot and eventually came at the end, after we had finished celebrating the birthday and already given the gifts. For a price of 285 dirhams per person, it is particularly disappointing. I find it really a shame to spoil the experience with such...
