We had been recommended here by family. The coffee is excellent. Am writing this to warn vegetarians/vegans though âŠ. they cook the sautĂ© potatoes (on the veggy breakfast) in pork fat. When I spoke to the waitress about this, she just repeatedly said that they donât have any pork fat in the kitchen. I was, however, surrounded by bacon butties and pork sausages. So there is pork fat everywhere. I felt it wasnât dealt with well because I wasnât asking them for anything other than to tell the kitchen of the error to avoid future problems. It was definitely bacon grease, which had spread around to other food which then couldnât be eaten. I had eaten some of the potatoes before I realised and my partner had confirmed the fact that it was pork fat on the food. He is not veggy, but does not eat pork. All in all I was quite upset by the experience as Iâve been veggy for over 35 years. It wouldnât have been a problem if they had just believed me and re plated it without the potatoes. We didnât know what to do at their refusal to do anything, and paid full price. I felt sick all morning. I donât write reviews but felt it important to say this due to the upset caused. It could have been avoided by just...
Read moreIt's ok here, I've had 3 visit and being brutally honest I would happily keep visiting but it is expensive, food to cost to ratio, I had breakfast today, 10.95 I believe one sausage which was size of thumb scrambled egg not much probably 1 or 2 eggs, 2 bacon with to much fat on it yes you can cut it off but for the price mushrooms beans 1 slice toast 1 hash . Quality of food 7 but loses a point for expensive and the amount.
Coffee is nice here I think. The young girl who serves is very polite friendly. The cake selection is good. Another issue is that you can hear the kitchen banging about whilst you are trying to enjoy cafe experience I don't really want to hear pots and pans banging. Overall decent place could be better would the above issues addressed.
To expensive for what you get...

We got lucky and sat in the window seats, but only for an hour as these were reserved too. Unfortunately we were just too late for breakfast (you can get a Full Derbyshire breakfast all day, but neither of us eat meat) so I had the Garlic & Thyme Open Toasted Sourdough, my partner had the Homemade Quiche of the Day (three cheese and spring onion) and we shared some loaded fries. Friendly staff, good service and delicious food. While we were eating, we could hear the staff turning people away on the phone as they had no more space. Would highly recommend eating here, but book first. Next time I'm in Alfreton I'll be coming here earlier,...
