Sanam — Restaurant in Amber Valley

This restaurant gets good reviews but unfortunately we had a bad experience. It was obvious from the beginning that there were issues here. Only two staff were available on a Saturday night. All attention appeared to be given to taking telephone calls for takeaway. I asked for the wine list which didn’t arrive. When I asked again and tried to choose a wine it was clear that none of the wines were available! Apparently it depends on what they have at the cash and carry. In any event it is obviously too much trouble to print a list of what wines they actually have. Most people drink beer so I suspect we would be in the minority. I use this place regularly and in preference to a closer takeaway (Jeer a) A bit shabby, could do with a fresh coat of paint, a small refurbishment maybe but boy is the food top notch!! I compare to takeaways in Rusholme and it stands on a level par. The portions are a decent sized and are perfectly cooked. The quality doesn't diminish at weekends in either sit in or takeaway. Ordered a meal, whilst ordering they asked me how spicy I liked my food. The customer service was second to none. I have to say the best Indian I have been in for a long time. Oh the food.... I had a chill chicken, it was spicy as you would expect.. Only problem was the amount, they really do have a problem with portion control. This is one of the few occasions when I couldn't eat it all.
