Royals Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Arun

Read the reviews and assumed that we would be getting a decent meal! Wrong!! Early on a Saturday evening (6pm ish) seemed like a good option to get decent fresh chips. We placed an order for chicken nuggets and chips, chips and fish & chips. Was a bit surprised to have to go and find cash to pay for the meal. After a bit of a wait (35 mins) we were given the food. Straight away we could smell a problem. We had decided to eat on the beach but in the car all we could smell was rancid oil. The nuggets were edible. Nothing to note just standard ok nuggets. The fish was another matter. Very greasy . The fish itself was tasteless. Batter wasn't dreadful but the oil on it tasted old. The big problem was the chips. You can forgive so so food as long as the chips were good. These were not! They smelt awful. The oil definitely needed changing. The chips were rock hard, covered in bits from the oil, simply tasted dreadful. Never seen my teens throw chips away before! I ate 2 chips then gave up. A couple walking past saw my daughter getting upset and asked if we'd gone to Royals? When we said yes they shook their heads and told us we should have tried a different place. You'll see from my reviews that I'm honest and not into simply moaning for the sake of it. We were really disappointed not to be able to support a local business. There is no excuse to make dreadful chips. Clean oil would go along way to help. They have a captive market at the moment and if they want to keep customers they'll need to...

Food certainly hasnt ever been the worst or atrocious when I've gone in. Simon the owner is an actual legend. Busy. Always polite. People need alot more respect on this site he's recovering from a motorcycle crash and is part paralyzed only works on fridays and hires a great team.

As mentioned this shop does get very busy for good reasons. The curry sauce, the pies, the fish that actually has a flavor and decent portion size unlike harry Ramsden's.

OK it'll never exactly win a Harry's award but thats what they excel in because they like their potatoes and always use the same type as far as I'm aware going on taste and the chips have never been greasy. Sometimes a tad crispy and airy but never greasy or inedible. I quite like my chips to have a crunchy airy feel thats what it almost always is here. If the food or order could have been better they certainly would sort the customer out. I even got free food during a cycle round the uk from simon and he helped sponsor for my autism charity.

I really miss his old shop in Waterlooville where i live but the food is so appealing i actually cycle my bike to Bersted bognor Regis and back day or night for a fish or pie and chips always with the curry sauce which never fails to be perfect all besides one time they needed a substitute as they ran...

Pubic hair found in fish and chips.

After my partner found a pubic hair, with hair root!!! in her fish and chips she took it back to discreetly ask for a refund. The bloke serving the food wouldn't even turn around to look at her or address my partners complaint and instead let the young girl at the till deal with it. After asking what she should do the man, again without even turning around, said give her a refund for the chips. The fish and chips are served in the same tray. It wasn't until my partner stated in front of all the other customers that pubic hair should bot be served with food that she was begrudgingly given a full refund for her half eaten and very spoilt fish and chips.

Awful food hygine and truly disgusting customer service from an adult who let a young teenager deal with a serious complaint.

We will never return to this fish...
