The hotel on approach is very nice. There was a notice on the door to check in via the bar. It's pretty straightforward so far. The room we had was on the ground floor, right by the reception area. The room inside was OK, not fabulous but alright. The toilet seat moved when you sat on it, I don't have mobility issues, but if someone did, that could cause someone to get injured. The walls inside were quite damaged, knocks and lumps out of them. There were marks on the bedding, too. The tea and coffee selection, not a lot of choice. Only a couple of hot chocolate sachets, umpteen coffee and tea. The weather was really warm, 22 degrees at 4 pm, and there were no water bottles in the room. Took us over 4 hours to get to Nottingham. No biscuits in there either, just for a quick drink and a sit down. Tv selection was OK, so I found something to watch. The bed was comfortable, and the pillows were nice to sleep on. When we went over to the pub, it was very nice. We ordered drinks and had a browse on their menus. Good selection of food. Being a Sunday, I opted for a roast dinner, and my husband had the steak and ale pie. My plate was full. The pie, however, looked a little lost without a plateful of something to surround it. Maybe more veg, next time. My roast dinner was not hot, and the potatoes were overcooked. Just as well, we ordered extra for the table. I'm a little disappointed with dinner, off to bed now. Morning! The shower was nice, but it was a bit slippy under foot. There is a sign to say you can ring for a non-slip mat. I thought that would have been a requirement in every room. The quarter of the toilet roll, though, was folded into a neat point. I think one of those paper bands over the toilet would give customers the idea it had been cleaned and would flag up the toilet seat issue as well. Went over to the bar for breakfast. There is a choice of a cooked or continental choice. We had to pay for breakfast. This was not in the price of the room. Continental was described as cereal, yoghurt, and pastries, but when all that is on offer is little packets of cereal and milk, I think the cooked breakfast is a fuller option. Was told by the staff that the app isn't working, so we ordered at the bar with our table number. What I find quite strange is that you order your breakfast and it doesn't come with tea or coffee. That you have to pay extra for. Our breakfast came without sausages, so we had to ask for them when they were part of the meal. When asked if we wanted jam or marmalade on our toast because fried bread was not an option. We were given 1 tiny sachet of jam for 2 slices of toast. Milk comes in sachets and not a little jug. It seems that there are a few little issues, but more care and attention could iron out those kinks. Back to the room for a re-dress as we are going to a funeral today. Iron is basic. It needs to be a heavier option to get them creases out. Check out was at 11 am, which is decent and back to the Bowman for the wake. The staff looked to be busy but it seemed that there were a lot of people doing not a lot. The food came out, very nice it was. Tea and coffee didn't come out till later. I think the tea and coffee should have come out before the food. It would give people the option other than alcohol or bar drinks. Nice wake, room spacious upstairs but was hot.||Sixty pound a night, you make your mind up if that's value for money. Ground floor rooms, you can hear doors closing all night long, people talking, the car park is a...
Read moreI’ve been coming to The Bowman Bar and Grill for 15 years, and it has truly become like a second home. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warmth and friendliness that’s rare to find. The staff here goes above and beyond—attentive, engaging, and consistently making every visit feel special. Whether it's a packed night or a quieter afternoon, they make sure each guest feels valued and welcome. You can tell they take genuine pride in what they do, and that kind of service is one of the reasons I keep coming back.
The food, of course, is fantastic. Every dish is prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and it really shows in the flavour. From perfectly seasoned meats to vibrant, crisp vegetables, everything is hot, fresh, and absolutely bursting with taste. Whether I’m enjoying a classic burger, their delicious wings, or one of their specials, I’ve never once been disappointed. The Bowman’s menu has something for everyone, and they have maintained a remarkable consistency in quality over the years.
Beyond all this, The Bowman is also tremendous value for money. They don’t just serve delicious food—they do it at prices that make you feel like you’re getting much more than you paid for. It’s rare to find a place that combines quality, service, and affordability so well, which is why I always recommend The Bowman to friends and family.
If you’re looking for a place with great food, exceptional service, and an atmosphere that feels like family, The Bowman Bar and Grill is the place to be. After 15 years, I can confidently say they’re still the best in town, and I’m looking forward to many more meals and ...
Read moreWe booked a table online, and when we came in we weren’t greeted by anyone so we tried to find our table ourselves, which we did. My partner went up to the bar to order our food and was stood there for 10 minutes plus not being served whilst at least 3 different members of staff walked past him multiple times and ignored him. Just as we were about to leave, somebody finally came over to the till to take our order. We wanted to use blue light discount, however they wouldn’t accept the card we presented, they needed it on an app, which we didn’t have. My partner spent another 10 minutes trying to download the app but signal wasn’t great so he had to stand outside in the rain to get it to work. My partner ordered a cider but only got half a glass because they didn’t have enough for a full glass. For the duration of our visit, there was a young lad sat near us vaping inside which wasn’t a good look for the pub nor very pleasant. However, the food and drinks were very nice, even though we had to go to another table ourselves to find cutlery and salt and pepper. We ordered the mixed grill and our steaks were cooked perfectly as we wanted them, all the other meat was fresh, hot and tender and was good quality meat. The food came quickly and was enjoyable. It’s just a shame that we got ignored during our visit as this has put us off from returning...
