A fantastic family favourite with excellent food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere, we visit at least once a week!
Stubbs is hands down our favourite restaurant, and it's no surprise that we make a point of visiting at least once a week. The combination of excellent food, friendly staff, and a wonderful setting makes it a place we always look forward to returning to.
What sets Stubbs apart is the consistently high quality of everything on the menu. Whether you’re looking for fish, lobster, steak, or a burger, every dish is faultless and always cooked to perfection. The cocktails and Guinness are always served exactly as they should be. One of the things we appreciate most is that you can order anything off the menu and know it will always be nice.
The staff are another reason we keep coming back. Eva, the main hostess, deserves a special mention for the warm and welcoming impression she gives at the entrance. She works incredibly hard to ensure that every guest is happy, and her efforts don’t go unnoticed. Lucio, one of the waiters, is always cheerful, professional, and friendly, making every meal even more enjoyable.
While Stubbs can get extremely busy even on weekdays, it’s not uncommon to see every table full, along with several large groups of twelve or more people. We’ve dined here both as a couple and as a family, and even though weekends can be noisy and bustling, (my youngest prefers the quieter weekday visits.) However, we are always happy to dine here, no matter the day, as there’s always a great mix of people and families.
A standout feature of Stubbs is the absence of any "discretionary" service charge, which we often see added to the bill at some other restaurants. We always try to tip the staff generously because we recognise how hard they work under pressure to ensure everything runs smoothly in such a busy environment but it's so nice for you to have the choice of your own.
When choosing foor our favourites are the starters of brie and toast, and tempura prawns, followed by the steak with peppercorn sauce and the Blues Burger often with a side of lobster. For dessert, we often choose choclate cake or the ice cream with brandy snap basket. We have also tried many cocktails here and the Mojito is one of our favourites.
Whenever we've had a challenging week, we head straight to Stubbs for a meal that never fails to lift our spirits and round off the week on a high note. We can’t wait for...

I don’t usually write reviews, but after what happened at Stubbs Restaurant in Ashford, I feel compelled to share my experience.
As someone who suffers from anxiety and has been feeling a bit low lately, I decided to try and lift my spirits by going out for a quiet meal with my husband and 2 kids. We chose Stubbs based on some positive reviews and were genuinely looking forward to it
However, from the moment we arrived, we were made to feel completely unwelcome. Upon entry, a member of staff — a woman at the front — outright refused to serve us. When I politely asked why, she made a racial comment about my husband's ethnicity saying she's had problems from he's lot in the past because he's Irish and when we asked what problem she has had with us she then said she didn’t need to give us a reason and asked us to leave. I was genuinely shocked.
I asked again, very calmly and respectfully, if there had been some kind of misunderstanding. Her response? That people from our nationality had previously caused some disturbance at the restaurant, and that because we sounded similar, we weren’t welcome. Just like that — we were turned away because of where we’re from and how we speak.
Let me be absolutely clear: there were empty tables and availability. If we had been told the place was fully booked, I would’ve completely understood and walked away without a second thought. I’m a reasonable and understanding person. But instead, we were judged and excluded based purely on assumptions and past events that had nothing to do with us.
I have never, in my life, experienced such blatant discrimination, especially in a public restaurant setting. It was humiliating and upsetting, and it completely ruined what was supposed to be a peaceful evening.
I left without raising my voice or causing a scene, because I believe in handling things respectfully — but I’m also not going to stay silent about something so wrong. If a business chooses to treat people this way, they should be held accountable.
I sincerely hope this review reaches the management and encourages them to reflect on how people are treated. Discrimination — in any form — has no place in a modern,...
Read moreWe went here for my girlfriends dad's birthday, this place is a little higher class than what we normally go to but he generally likes finer dining so decided based on reviews to come here and I've got to be honest I was a little dissapointed, it wasn't terrible but a few things really let it down.
Starting with the staff, the staff were very polite and friendly, although you had various different staff members dealing with you rather than just having the one which might have led to some of the issues. After a little wait 4 out of 5 starters arrived and then the waitress left and didn't return and we see her starting to bring out orders for other tables... we had to flag down another waiter to ask where the 5th starter was and all our food got a little cold whilst waiting... it didn't take too long but that was the first issue. Most people enjoyed there starters, with the exception of myself who went with the cheesy garlic bread which the cheese are garlic were OK but the bread was just a tough bread roll and seemed a bit like it was leftover bread from the day before, it wasn't terrible, but not fitting of a restaurant of this standard and I've had a lot nicer ones in Harvester or Whetherspoon.
Moving on to the main meals, my partner had requested a gluten free coleslaw along with bbq sauce with her steak as opposed to one of the paid for sauces due to allergies. The meals came out and once again without asking if there was anything else we needed / if we had everything, they just disappeared and my partner didn't have her coleslaw and none of us had been offered any sauces. I've got to say my fillet steak was amazingly tender and my partners father couldn't stop raving about his Skate, especially the size of it and said how difficult it is to find a good skate these days. My peppercorn sauce wasn't very "peppercorny" but i didnt mind as that can sometimes be overwhelming and the gravy it is was in was lovely. One of us had a chicken burger and they were very dissapointed in that so all in all a bit of a mixed bag, it wasn't a terrible meal, but for the money it was dissapointing. I'd go again but wouldn't go out of my way to...
