We decided that we would have Sunday lunch out and the kennington carvery popped up on a sign whole we we driving home from work. We booked a table for 3 very easily online after looking at the menu and being impressed. On first impressions the kennington looks very impressive although the carpark is quite small. On entering the building we were greeted by a waitress where we explained we were a bit early and we were happy to have a drink and wait for our table. This is the first problem you can't have a drink as it's table service only. Not a problem though the waitress said we could go to our table and someone would be with us soon. As promised we ordered our drinks and ordered our food. 2 x carvery and one main meal ( chicken wings in bbq sauce). Looking around the interior was quite tired and definitely felt like you were in the club house of a holiday park. If you want table cloths and fine dining this isn't the place for you. 15 minutes later the chicken wings arrived and we were impressed with the potion size.. The carvery I have to say was good. Pork, turkey, beef and gammon with a wide selection of veg. The person serving the meat could do with a personality bypass, he was borderline rude. He might have been having a bad day but frankly that isn't my problem. The next part of the review is why I have given 3 stars. Although the waitresses were pleasent they didn't really give 100% they just did what they had to do. As I've said the carvery server was miserable and moody! Customer service training would definitely help. The food was ok but was very expensive, you'd get cheaper at another well known carvery,. Unfortunately I don't think we will be back, this is just my opinion. I was expecting something different and I was...
Read moreHad a decent meal here food and service were ok and attentive, once outside to go home some sixteen year olds who had a a meal there along with others wanted to start a fight with me, why on earth is the kennington Carvery serving under age kids with alcohol, the wife only had two glasses of wine and myself had two soft drinks so we were no drunk, it was a horrible experience we are both nearing our sixties, and I had only recently come out of a long in hospital, so a fight was far from our minds. I heard one of the mothers shout "dont start again you got into trouble last time" So in summary I will never dine or order a takeaway again, plus also sharing a disgusting experience any time the opportunity arises. in return to your reply it was 100% your restaurant as I came out half way down your steps i bent down to tie a loose shoe lace and they started shouting and being aggressive thinking i was actually drunk, it was the first I had been to your place, and to be honest it was the latter part of last year, I was recently talking to friends about where to eat when this current lockdown is over your name came up and was persuaded to share my experience there, regardless of age coming out of a restaurant and being started on by three lads with their mums screaming and shouting at the boys to stop was not pleasant, as I said at the beginning the food and service was fine but why return somewhere after you have a...
Read moreThe food was awesome, none of the meat was dry, plenty of choice of veg and all of it cooked perfectly. I even enjoyed the cauliflower cheese and I can't stand cauliflower normally (I was feeling adventurous).
Next the puddings. Crumble and cheesecake we had, both spot on. Light, yummy and the perfect end to the meal.
Now the downside and in my eyes it's a biggy. The service was appalling. Half 6 on a Sunday night the restaurant was probably just over half full. I counted 8 staff waiting tables, or more to the point not. Mostly standing in small groups talking or wandering around with glazed expressions. The joys of employing mostly children I guess.
Upon being shown our table we placed a drinks order then sat there, waiting. As we had never eaten there we assumed someone would take our order. After 20 minutes of being ignored we just went up to the carvery.
After finishing we sat there waiting again, until I got fed up being ignored and waved one down from his day dream.
We waited again for the bill, was expecting it anyway at this point, and off we went.
We overheard several other complaints from other tables saying the same sort of thing.
Just fortunate the food was superb, otherwise this place...
