I called to book a meal for 11 people to celebrate a family members birthday. At the time of booking their system went down so it was completed on paper. I was told to expect a deposit link and menu through in order to complete a pre-order. These didn't arrive so I called back the following week - there was no booking recorded, so I rebooked and was given the same information regarding deposit and pre-order. Again, no links and emails found so called again a few days later to be told they would do it ASAP.
8pm the day before the meal, I was called to ask for my deposit and pre-order, they had e-mailed the info a few hours earlier. All completed with an hour.
We arrived to a table set of 15 and made up of a mish mash of tables and chairs of different heights. The supervisor then sent over a young waitress to let us know that they had only just seen our pre-order and that we had been emailed the incorrect menu so a number of our party were unable to have what they had ordered.
Starters arrived, the garlic mushrooms were sliced mushrooms in a watery garlic sauce with no bread. The soup and calamari options were all good.
Main course - the beef was tough and the other meal option, which was belly pork, was bland. The vegetarian option was best described as diced veg with an egg on top, it wasn't great. The saving grace was that the Yorkshire pud that came with the beef was lovely.
Dessert - 3 choices but there were only 3 portions of brownie available and the crème brulé was gritty.
I found it incredibly frustrating that the supervisor continued to send a young waitress to deliver bad news to our table rather than dealing with the issues herself. I approached the supervisor at the beginning and end of the meal, she could be found at a computer on the side of the bar.
Sat on the bar were a hair brush and deodorant and the toilets were unclean and had no soap which didn't fill me with confidence that hygiene was a high priority.
Nothing seemed to go right from start to finish. I'd heard great things about tapas nights and hoped that a Sunday service would be of the same quality unfortunately this was far...
Read moreSomething has changed and for the better…. We stopped to going into the Royal as it was like the only way is Essex, skinny jeans and tight vests and that were the men ..…. It’s now more like it used to be when it first opened, far nicer clientele, the two girls that looked after us Kate and Amy were exceptionally tentative from start to finish… I’m really surprised at some of the bad comments on here & can only think that they must be some of the young chavvy only way is Essex past clientele… The cocktail menu is extensive and the tapas menu has a lot to choose from. The dishes that we ordered were exceptional, fresh, very tasty & really good sized portions. For two women having a catch up and having a bite to eat, we had a wonderful three hours there & weren’t rushed from our tables like you can be in some places, we enjoyed it so much that we are booking to go back again together and also planning to go with our other halves separately as well. Well done Kate and Amy and the kitchen staff for looking after us. The garden and the marquee are exceptional too, and the pictures that are on here do not do the royal any justice at all.
I’m so glad that we have something on our doorstep that we can go to without being surrounded by fake tan and...
