Looked nice and had good reviews so decided to try whilst in the area.

Called first and was told we could have a table in the restaurant at 5pm which we took. Upon arrival we were told we had to eat in the bar as the table had gone (in the 5 minutes it took to get there) which meant we couldn't take advantage of the 2 or 3 course deals featured on the online menu. We were a little disappointed we couldn't eat upstairs but decided to stay as we were there already.

Ordered at the bar and it was around an hour for the starters to come but they looked really nice. The soup was lovely but the "mushrooms on toast" as announced by the waitress were somewhat under seasoned. The mains were just what you would expect a Yorkshire Sunday roast to be.....swimming in gravy and huge Yorkshire puddings...yum 😊 The children's pasta and meatballs looked gorgeous and it was refreshing to see it was done like an adult meal as apposed to pasta tubes chucked on a plate which you get elsewhere.

There was a little confusion on the Latte we ordered and I ended up with two which I was happy to pay for but they kindly only put the one on the bill.

We would have liked to have dessert however we were just passed a dessert board and told to order at the bar (the table next to us had table service?) but there was quite a queue by then so decided against it. Also the children's desserts were limited (just icecream apparently?).

Whilst we were waiting to pay one of the gentleman serving went to clear our table and noticed my little boys drawings so came over with some haribo and told him he was very creative (totally made his day!) Which we thought was a lovely touch 😊

I did have to go back in after I had left as I realised I had paid another tables bill in error but it was quickly rectified without any issue.

My overall feeling is that it seemed to be a very 'locals' pub to go to and the service seemed to be better if the waitresses knew you. I also feel the dining experience may have been better in the restaurant however overall it was pleasant...

We came in October for my mum in laws birthday and the food , service was faultless. So on leaving we booked for Boxing Day for 4 adults, also paying £40 deposit. On arrival we were shown to our table which must be the worst table in the restaurant straight opposite the bar. I presume the head waitress came to take our food order, which we didn’t think much of either starters or mains. So 2 of us didn’t bother!! Then I explained iwas a vegetarian, only 1 choice and unfortunately ant eat pastry so opted for a meat free Xmas dinner. The lady ( head waitress) made no comment or suggest anything else and to be quite honest she came across to all of us as been rude. The 2 other young girls were absolutely lovely that served us. After ordering our food a family came in and sat directly at the back of us and we quite clearly heard her say that there was also a prawn cocktail and something else available as a starter?? Can you tell me why we wasn’t given this option, because my Mum and husband would have chose this. When main course arrived the gravy ran off my husbands plate because there was so much on and the table is out of level. We then waited another 5 minutes for the veg , I did ask for more veg as that’s all I was having, it came in a dish with 6 sprouts and 5 carrot batons and cabbage on top. This was supposed to be feeding 3 of us. It wasn’t very hot either. Yes we should have said something there but didn’t want to cause a stir. Mum had jam roly poly and later told me it was hard the suet pastry. We were really disappointed with the food but more over the head waitresses attitude to us,certainly didn’t make us feel welcome. Maybe we aren’t regular customers but we only live in the next village but we will not be visiting the Talbot again One last thing when getting our bill the £40 deposit hadn’t...

was working in the area and went for a sunday roast as this establishment was recommended by friends who live locally, i wouldn't recommend the food here to anyone. I had the beef sunday roast, I was asked if i wanted the beef pink or cooked so i chose cooked, food was served to our table over 45 minutes later, the beef was hard and dry the mash potato was clearly microwaved the boiled and fried roast potatoes where hard the yorkshire pudding was burnt but gooey on the inside and the vegetables (shredded cabbage and half a carrot) was served in a separate bowl swimming in water this was sent back and replaced with an almost identical roast, absolutely terrible food with very good customer service if you don't mind waiting almost an hour and bar staff constantly looking over at our table and gossiping with one another before receiving food. my partner had the mushroom and stilton linguine which she enjoyed, my friend had sweet potato fries which came from frozen while another friend had the cheese burger i believe it's listed as prime beef steak on the menu however if the burger was beef it had expired a while and was inedible, we left for kfc and will not...

Talbot has long been known for its restaurant upstairs. Haven't been for many years but last Wednesday we decided to give the quiz a go. We also ate. The bar food is sublime. Many pubs state "home cooked". Well this pub is 100% home cooked. Last week two of us had a burger and one had the chicken pie and Mash. Onion rings were fresh. Crispy and juicy. Light and tasty. Chips were home cut and cooked. Burgers dense and meaty. Huge! This week (see pics) we had a burger, Chicken Shwarma and Sausage and mash. Again BLOODY LOVELY! Can't fault the food. Quiz is fast paced and challenging. Harry (quizmaster and bar personnel extraordinaire) keeps it going, he's quick witted, dry and funny. All the staff are lovely. The pub decor is well done. It retains an olde world vibe but has modern keynotes. Loos are good. Clientele range from 20 somethings to retirees. It's a great mix. Well worth a visit!

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Pleasant upstairs dining area away from "the pub". Fairly quiet though for a Saturday evening. Found we were sat next to a radiator which was on despite it being July and 20+ degrees that evening. A decent selection of options on the menu from pie and chips at £15 to Chateaubriand £60 for two people. Disappointing they had run out of Diane sauce for the steak ( surely they could make their own)? Food was very well presented and portion size was good. Very pleased with my Jacobs ladder bbq short ribs. My partner wasn't overkeen on her lamb which was fatty and rather bland. All in all a pleasant visit and may well be worth a return visit.
