Honestly wasn't expecting much when we popped into Wildwood on Billericay high street, but bloody hell, what a pleasant surprise!
Got the minute steak and chips, some focaccia to share, and obviously had to try the tiramisu because... well, when in Rome (or Billericay). Whole lot came to £17 which these days is basically a miracle.
The steak was spot on - proper tender and cooked just right. None of that chewy nonsense you sometimes get. Chips were banging too, nice and crispy on the outside. The focaccia was still warm when it came out and we absolutely demolished it before the mains even arrived (oops).
But can we talk about this tiramisu for a sec? Normally I'm a bit meh about desserts but this one was actually ridiculous. Like, properly good. Had that perfect coffee kick and wasn't too sweet or anything.
Staff were lovely as well - really chatty and seemed to actually enjoy their jobs, which you don't see everywhere. One of the servers even had a laugh with us about how quickly we'd polished off the bread.
Look, it's not fancy fine dining or anything, but sometimes you just want good food that doesn't cost a fortune and leaves you feeling proper satisfied. This place nailed it.
Already planning to drag the missus back next weekend. Might even try something different on the menu... or just get exactly the same thing again because why mess with perfection, right?
Definitely recommend if you're...
Read moreI almost never write restaurant reviews, but the most awesome waitress assisted for my Dad’s 80th birthday party at Wildwoods in Billericay, and she fully deserves to be recognised publicly. Niamh was her name and she was phenomenal. She catered to the seven children in the group – and all the adults, effortlessly. She was efficient, intelligent, graceful, caring, and knowledgeable about the food. And she had this friendly demeanour about her that made us all happy and reassured that we were in great hands. By the end of our four hour meal, we were singing her praises and saying, "She's the best waitress we've ever had in Essex – and maybe even London!".
By the way, the food is pretty good, the décor is very cool. The management ordered me in some non-alcoholic cava which went down a treat as many of the adults were driving or on medication (it being and 80th bday celebration and all!). I had originally popped in for a recce when considering other restaurants in the Billericay area. The deal was cemented when I was advised that we would likely have the entire upstairs area for ourselves and that they would order in non-alcoholic fizz - specifically Freixenet 0% which I find to be much drier and less sweet than other versions.
So thank you Wildwood for helping us to celebrate and thank you Niamh for the wonderful service! If I had the opportunity to give more...
Read moreBeen to this branch a total of 3 times and safe to say I’m not going to return. First experience was a joke, starters took 2 hours to arrive. Second experience was great, no problems at all, food was relatively quick and myself and mums gluten free carbonara was lovely. Third experience there was with my parents, brother and his girlfriend. Many items on the reduced menu had sold out so mum and I weren’t too happy with available gluten free options. I opted for a gluten free DOUBLE pepperoni pizza which was scorched beyond belief with barely any pepperoni on it, very disappointed. Dads pasta dish was stone cold and had to be reheated as it was not bearable to eat. Super unsatisfied with what was expected to be a lovely family meal out/late birthday celebrations for my brother. Staff did however deduct my dads meal from the bill as an apology. Wildwood is a lovely eat out location but we will not be returning to the Billericay...
