This Indian restaurant used to be great, It's a shame this place used to be the best in Whitchurch and most of the surrounding areas but it has gone right downhill in the last 6 months. Ever since the new owner took over Hot Spice it seems they don’t care about making good food anymore, they have the curry monopoly in Whitchurch now ‘so why bother trying’ seems to be the attitude. To give a bit of background I used to order from here once a week for myself and family. In the last few months the rice size has gone down, the curry size has halved so the pots are just over a half full now. We also regularly ordered 2 naan breads but I would say every other time we would be missing 1 of them. The curries themselves have become very bland and watery which is a shame as they used to be full of flavour. We’ve also noted that lots of dishes seem to be being bulked out with onion, a bit of onion is fine but some are more onion than anything else. Such a shame, I refuse to use Hot Spice as this is the same owner. I hope it gets better and I can come back and change this review! Till then I will get my delivered from Andover's New Mumbai Brasserie restaurant, luckily they deliver to...
Read moreI have been visiting the blue ginger for some years, it has been my Indian restaurant of choice for a long time, i consider it a place to visit as a treat or for a celebration. the staff are always courteous and attentive.
It is with sadness that I feel the need to post a failure in the service, after a long absence I went to eat with friends and ordered the chicken Madras, it took a long time to arrive and when i tasted it I was dismayed that the dish was unpleasant and nowhere near the standard I had come to expect, the sauce was like a mixture of salt and curry powder and chicken added, not as a complete dish, more as a kit of parts. i complained, i was given an alternative dish which was not good either, they knocked the cost off the bill but that is not why I make the effort to eat out, to not pay for stuff.
I shall not go there again, it is a pity, I imagine any restaurant is only as good as the staff in the kitchen at any time and how the...
Read moreMe and some friends had arranged to eat at the blue ginger with a lot of anticipation as we had enjoyed our meal here a few years before. Upon arriving, despite being one of the few people there we were sat in the corner of the restaurant. No music was playing and the atmosphere was very awkward. The waiters seemed very keen to clear our plates and we all felt as though we were being rushed. Added to which, we were told that the Ostrich curry, one of the main reasons we had gone, was off the menu, despite being advertised online, and we were told the cocktail menu wasn't available to us. I'm not sure why this last part was unavailable, as we were given no explanation. It was a very disappointing night and very expensive. Not going to bother...
