Alleppey Boat is beautifully decorated & the window seats have a beautiful view that allow you to idyllically enjoy gorgeous sunsets with the world buzzing by.
Hands down the best dosas in town & possibly the country, are served here. Perfect textbook traditional dosas that are Golden, Crisp and still a little soft. The chutneys are well seasoned & complement the Dosa. If you like your Dosa with a bit of a kick then go for the mysore Dosa. All the same goodness of the Masala Dosa with a good bit of heat while still retaining its original taste. The Medhu Vadas are cooked to order so the ones served are always soft fluffy & crispy Vadas. Anyone who has eaten Vadas at a restaurant knows how rare that is to find.
For mains would highly recommend the meen polichathu for seafood lovers, chicken chettinad & the southern railway lamb for meat aficionados. The menu leaves you spoilt for choice and if you find it hard to decide, the staff and managers are extremely helpful in selecting something that would suit your pallet. They also adjust the spice level on request but I'd suggest that you go with the original spice level. The spice levels are well balanced and you get all the flavours expected of typical South Indian cuisine. The Chef really knows his food and it shows - no matter what you choose, the Curries are perfectly seasoned so as to not take away from the true flavours of the dish and the protein - perfectly cooked.
Whether you prefer rice or flat bread - there are enough choices in both to cater to the fussiest eaters. No matter what your preference - The layered Kerala Paratha is something you have to try. It complements the curry beautifully.
If there is still room (and I doubt that - it took me repeat visits to try just this but of the menu) the desserts bring your experience to a brilliant finish. The Rasmalai especially stood out for me. I enquired and found it is made from scratch by the skilled chef everyday and this shows. The pieces are soft and the portion generous. The sweetness just right to clear the pallet and the nuts garnished over add just the required texture to the dish.
Definitely a place you will visit over and over again and why won't you? There is enough on the menu to try something new everytime and with the generous portions, you will have to make a repeat visit just to indulge in another luxurious evening that takes you to the heart of...

Believe it or not, they have outdone themselves!! The ambiance, the food, and most importantly the staff are simply outstanding. I've got some new items on my list of favourites: Starters: the Samosa Chat, Achari Paneer Tikka, and Chicken Lollipops with a banging new Schezwan Sauce. Mains: Malabar King Prawn, Madras Chicken Drinks: Pink Gin with Lemonade I cannot leave Allepey Boat without a serving of my favourite Gulab Jamun, which I don't even have to order anymore, because Savio (one of the partners) remembers every time!
I've already reserved Alleppey Boat and planned out a menu with the partners and chef to celebrate my wedding in a few weeks! My family and friends are going to love it!!!
Alleppey Boat takes me back to India every time I eat there. From the number of dishes I've tried, all of which were excellent, I have to point out that their "Southern Railway Lamb" paired with the "Kerala Paratha" is absolutely brilliant. Their "Dosas" and "Medu vada", served with fresh chutneys might be better than what I've eaten in India. While I'm still in the process of eating my way through Alleppey Boat's menu I can definitely recommend the Mango Lassi, Pepper Chicken Chettinad, and Chilli Cheese Garlic Naan as well. Don't be shy to ask the staff for recommendations and to adjust the dish to your preference. They are more than willing to make sure that you have the best experience. Having visited 3 times and already planning my 4th, I think it's safe to say Alleppey Boat is my new favourite place for...
Read moreIf you're in Birmingham, it doesn't matter which part, make your way to Alleppey Boat. It will be more than worth your time. Trust me! As soon as we sat down we were attended to by friendly staff and what looked like happy customers enjoying their meals, so I already knew this was the right restaurant to pick. The menu was easy to understand for those that aren't very familiar with Indian dishes and even being Indian myself, it was really helpful. I can't explain how incredible the food was. I've been to Alleppey Boat a few times now and have managed to try a lot of things from their menu. I'd recommend the chicken 65 as a starter as well as the Gobi Manchurian, Dosa, Medu Vada and the Lamb Chops. Every time I dine here I look to try new curries as an excuse to order the Kerala Paratha. Although I have been blown away by the authenticity of the curries every single time. My favourite would have to be the Madras curry or the Kerala Chicken Roast. Finally, I would highly recommend their homemade desserts for those with a sweet tooth and place left in their stomachs for more good food. Although the food can more than stand on it's own, the service at Alleppey Boat was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. I felt like I was back home being tended to by several family members making sure I was as comfortable as possible. Every single visit to Alleppey Boat has left me more than satisfied and waiting until I can come back for more. I couldn't recommend a trip more. I seriously feel like I can't tell enough...
